Arthur Abraham to defend WBO European title against Piotr Wilczewski in 12-round – Boxing news
Kalle Sauerland, owner Sauerland Event, recently announced an epic brawl in which Arthur Abraham, the current WBO European super middleweight champion, will defend his newly acquired title against Piotr Wilczewski, the former EBU super middleweight champion,
in a 12-round skirmish.
The announcement was made by Kalle in a press conference where both men were present who later on shared their thoughts about the engagement.
Arthur is Germany’s second best super middleweight and proudly secures 11th position in the World Boxing Association rankings. Widely known as ‘King Arthur’, Abraham has been in a total 36 brawls and came out victorious in 33. He has collected a whopping
27 of his wins by knockout.
The German 32-year-old’s stats show that he is a knockout specialist and loves to collect an authoritative, swift and clean win over his opponent by heavily jabbing and pounding them with his powerful fists. Arthur has also successfully won and defended
the IBF middleweight gold several times.
The Berliner recently knocked out Pablo Oscar Natalio Farias in the fifth round to win the vacant WBO European super middleweight. Piotr, the Polish pugilist has been in a total 32 brawls and came out victorious in 30. He has collected 10 of his wins by
knockout and has lost just two brawls to Curtis Stevens and James DeGale.
Piotr, well known as ‘Wilk’, is the former EBU European and WBO Inter-continental super middleweight title holder. He lost his gold to James via majority decision and is coming from a win over Geard Ajetovic. After the announcement Kalle said, “It´s all
or nothing for Arthur. He needs to beat Wilczewski to put himself back in a position to fight for the world title.”
Kalle pinpointed that Arthur has the talent, capability, and the requisite aspects to become a world champion and this is his golden chance to nail an opponent of equal cadre. Abraham remarked, “I know there is a lot of pressure but I will make a good fight
and beat Wilczewski. I have high goals. I want to be world champion again.”
Piotr, who will take on Arthur on March 31, 2012 excitedly said, “I´m coming here to win. Arthur is a strong guy but I will defeat him.” Abraham’s training coach, Ulli Wegner, also said that he is confident at his man’s impressive comeback and said, “We
don´t fight any push-overs or easy opponents. It’s very simple; I expect a good fight from Arthur and a victory.”
Arthur will strive to defend the gold from Piotr by his powerful jabbing in the ring set up at Sparkassen-Arena situated in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
