Arthur Abraham will show Carl Froch the way to retirement
Arthur “The King” Abraham has vowed to send opponent Carl “The Cobra” into retirement when they fight in Helsinki, Finland, on November 27.
“After the fight, Froch can plan his retirement,” Abraham (31-1, 25 KOs) told BBC Sport.
The comments come at the heels of others made by Froch, where he implied he would consider retirement, should he lose to Abraham.
“The next fight is all or nothing for me,” Froch (26-1, 20 KOs) said.
“If it doesn't go my way, I will seriously consider retirement because I am only interested in the big title fights. I won't hang around at domestic level.”
The fight will write another chapter of Showtime’s Super Six Boxing tournament, with the winner advancing to the next level of competition and winning the prized WBC super middleweight title that will be on the line.
Froch hopes to regain the title after losing it in his last bout against contender Mikkel Kessler, while Abraham hopes to reestablish himself as an honest fighter after losing his last bout by way of disqualification.
Abraham was disqualified in the 11th round of a bout with opponent Andre Dirrell for hitting him after he slipped to the canvas. The shot resulted in Dirrell undergoing a momentary seizure and ultimately withdrawing from the tournament.
The incident was a frustrating moment in Abraham’s otherwise flawless career, and he finally has the opportunity to avenge it seven months later.
Frustrations were compounded by the fact that the bout with Froch was postponed twice, first with an August date changed to October and then with October being scrapped for November.
“Arthur is used to fighting three of four times a year, he has only fought once in 2010, was ready in August and is seriously annoyed,” said Sauerland Event, who promote Abraham.
“I don't like waiting seven months for one month, it is not good for me,” Abraham said.
