Arthur refuses to take sides in the Wade v Haddin debate – Cricket News Update
Australia’s head coach and selection panel member http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Haddin-c1170 as the preferred wicketkeeper for Test matches, saying there is still a long way to go till Australia’s next extended-overs series, which
will give him plenty of time to gauge the performances of both players.
Wade was picked for the Commonwealth Bank series in Australia earlier this year, and made an impressive ODI debut, while Haddin was ignored by selectors, leading the elder batsman to confess that he felt he had been dropped.
The National Selection Panel denied any such developments, insisting that Haddin remained the wicket-keeper of choice for Tests. He was included in the squad for the extended-overs leg of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 tour, while Wade was retained for the ODI and T20
series.
However, the senior cricketer was forced to pull out owing to personal reasons, which resulted in Wade’s Test debut in the Caribbean. Solid performances behind the stumps were supplemented by a maiden century (106) during the first innings of the third Test.
This brought Australia’s Test wicket-keeping spot into contention, and while skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s prime wicketkeeper, Arthur has adopted a more cautious stance, insisting that it is too early to
determine which player will be chosen for the series against South Africa later this year.
“There is a lot of water to go under the bridge before our next Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at the Gabba. That situation will unfold,” Arthur said, referring to the Test series scheduled to be played in the second half of 2012.
“Wadey will be in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 with us and he'll be in the Twenty20 World Cup.”
“So he's going to have ample opportunity to really shine and really show us what he's got,” he said, adding that Haddin will also have had the chance to play two Shield games before the panel went on to announce the team for the  Tests against the Proteas.
“For us to comment now is probably too early. I just think that will all unfold in the wash.”
