I have read this section, but I still dont feel that I understand the full concept of it. It would be nice if you, or someone else could explain what each paragraph means in this section, please and thank you.

  1. It deals with how the President and Vice President are elected. Most of that section of the article was changed with ratification of the Twelfth Amendment. However, it still calls for electors to be appointed from each state and their numbers would equal the total number of Senators and Member of the House of Representatives from that state.

It sets forth the minimum requirements by citizenship, U.S. residency and age to serve as President. It also deals with the succession of someone to the Presidency in case of death, removal from office, resignation or inability to carry out the duties of the office. This section has been updated through ratification of the 25th Amendment. It also says the President will be paid for his services, but bars him from drawing any other compensation from the United States or any State during his term of office. (Reagan had to give up his Social Security check and his California pension while he was President. If McCain is elected he will have to give up his Social Security check and his Navy pension during his term of office). The last paragraph lays out the language for the oath of office, when the President is sworn into that office (Washington added the phrase "so help me God" to that language and every President has followed that practice).
