  1. The Articles are a treaty between the 50 nation-states that make up the Union called United States of America. Note that I said "are" and "50" because this treaty has never been repealed or replaced. It is in full force and effect today except most Americans don't realize it and those in Washington DC like it that way. The truth is no one in Washington, the White House or Congress, has any power over the people of the several states that the people don't unwittingly give them.

The Articles severely limited the power of the Federal government, so to say any branch had more power than another is a moot point.

And just for ha-has, The People (average Americans) are not and never have been a party to the US Constitution. Read the Preamble carefully. You'll find that a group of people calling themselves the United States created a document for the United States of America. They're not the same. United States is a business (literally a corporation) based in Washington DC. United States of America is the collective 50 states of the Union.

Not sure? Do you vote for a President of the United States or the United States of America? You are a shareholder in the corporation. And you pay taxes instead of receiving dividends. How fair is that?

  2. A confederation was chosen because  the colonies needed a central government to fight the war with Great Britain, but the colonists were reluctant to replace British rule with another powerful national government. The Continental Congress gave priority to a unicameral legislature, whose weakness protected the liberty of the individual states.
