My paternal great great great great great grandfather name was either Artie or Artemus Scott. He was maybe born in South Carolina around the early 1800's and died in South Carolina closely around the turn of the century. His wife was Hester Duncan who was born around 1860's or 1870's.I would love to find out about his children and his parents. They were maybe slaves.Any info would help!!!!!

(If the above is correct, Purpose & Estelle were awfully young to be getting married!! Can't imagine being married at 13 & having kids. I think this is fouled up a bit)

Do you have the name RHETT SCOTT in your family?? There is an 1880 census on familysearch.org that lists him as having a son named ARTEMUS. Rhett is listed as "Race--Mulatto" and his wife and kids as "Race--Black".

    www.ancestry.com  shows this:

(1900 Federal Census, listed on page with Artemus as the Head of household; his age was 24. Also shows Perris Scott, age 5--b.about 1895--as  son to Artemus and Hester.

Could this be right?? First name spelled differently:
