  1. Selection that takes place under the control of humans, selecting for traits that humans find desirable, not necessarily what works best in nature.

    A good example is the cultivation and breeding of wild mustard by man into cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, etc. These crops likely would have never arisen without artificial selection by man. See: http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evosite/ev...
