Artistic Jewel wins the Sham Fillies Stakes on 28th October at Newmarket

It was on 28th October this season that the juvenile Irish filly under charge Ed McMahon won the “Dubawi” EBF Bosra Sham Fillies’ Stakes, a Group 1 race at Newmarket.
Artistic Jewel has raced five times this season, turning three of the runs into victories. The first landmark for her was the success in the Sportingbet.com Maiden Fillies’ Stakes on 25th July this season at Windsor. This maiden attracted eight
juveniles for participation in order to break their maiden.
During the maiden, Ralph Beckett trained Royal Red finished second and was being ridden by Jim Crowley, who was followed by Mae Rose Cottage under the supervision of Hughie Morrison and guidance of Nicky Mackay on the track during the race.
After being positioned fifth and third in the next two races Artistic Jewel again claimed the title on 28th September when racing the Veronica Stewart Memorial Conditions Stakes at Salisbury. The competition was between just four contenders with
some prominent entries like Saeed Bin Suroor whose horse, Ihsas managed the third ranking and Richard Hannon trained Gusto left the track in the end.
Runner up for this juvenile race stood out to be Arnold Lane with Sam Hitchcott aboard and under the training of Mick Channon.
Artistic Jewel with Graham Gibbons raced in the middle but clustered with the rest over the next two furlongs out. She then chased the leaders and by the third furlong she was in the second position on the track.
The juvenile then rode over so as to lead and shifted towards the right over one furlong out. The final furlong was without any competition, but even then the filly did not relax rather went on strongly for shooting through the wire.
"I thought possibly Graham went a bit soon, but he didn't want to stop her in her tracks because once you start pulling-up up the hill the field can come back to you”, said the Lichfield trainer.
Excelette trained by Bryan Smart and ridden by Tom Eaves, rode through the wire after the Irish winner and was followed by the winning trainer’s other entry, Radio Gaga who was riding in partnership with Richard Mullen.
"She's a nice big filly. She's only had the three runs and she'll be a nice horse for next year," the trainer added.
If Artistic Jewel accomplishes the title of the next race that she participates in then she will be able to post a hat trick on her record.
