Question:

Artistic program music suggestions?

I am in Pre-Juvenile level. Me and my mom (coach) have been looking for music and only have found two good songs by Ethel Merman - Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend, and Some People.

We can't find any other good music.

I would like the music to be older (from 40's-60's -ish).

No disney music (over used)

So nothing over used like Colors of the Wind, music from Annie, etcccc.

  1. I've done all sorts of Fourties songs for artistic and freestyle, here are some of my suggestions:

Anything by Cherry Poppin' Daddies, its got a fun beat with a 40s feel.

I must suggest anything from Amelie by Yann Tiersen, there aren't any words, but they are incredible compositions.

Danny Elfman is another composer (no words), he does beautiful peices, but they aren't typically used for artistics (might be good to hold on for later),

Somewhere Over the Rainbow (yes I know its overused) but the version from 50 First Dates, by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, it has a different twist on an several 1940s songs ("Wonderful World" Louis Armstrong, "Over the Rainbow" Judy Garland).

Big Voodoo Daddy's "Go Daddy-O," is big band, I'm not sure if you're looking for sappy junk from the fourties or the big band and swing music from the fourties.

Fourties is easy to go wrong. I suggest only do uppity beats unless you have a really graceful skating style.

    If you're a spinner:

    Ella Fitzgerald

    Louis Armstrong

Gene Kelly ("You are my Lucky Star" is the only one that jumps out in my mind at the moment, but I'm not sure how you could choreograph it)

    If you're a Jumper:

    Frank Sinatra

Heart (This is risky, because it IS more rock from the 70s, but I couldn't help but throw it in)

The best advice I can give on an artistic is listen to the music, and if you can immediately get up and feel the music and move to it off-ice and you won't get sick of it, use it. Don't think too much about what the judges will think, if you love your music, it will show in your performance.

(trust me on this, I got last in every performance of little mermaid music that I did simply because I hated my music.)

  5. I love the song "Que Sera, Sera" by Doris Day, but I'm not sure if the beat would be the best for skating - it's kind of a waltz almost.  But you could check it out and see.

  6. Well, when I was at the pre-preliminary level, I skated to "Material Girl".  At preliminary, I skated to "Thank God I'm A Country Girl".  At pre-juvenile I skated to "Rockin' Robin".  Now, Juvenile, I am skating to "Cotton Eyed Joe".  My best friend skated to "We Go Together" when she was your level.

  7. New York, New York

i havent heard that one for a long time
