The first Gatti vs Micky Ward was the best fight of the trilogy.

I think that fight was the best of Gatti's even though he lost.

To be honest the stand out fight of the 4 has to be the first fight against Mickey Ward, that fight is on my top 5 favourite fights of all time and the 9th round is quite possibly my favourite single round of all time with Hagler Vs Hearns round 1 a close second. All 4 are great fights and it would be a toss up between the second Ward fight and the Ruelas fight for second, it is a very hard question you have posed here though as i am now thinking the Robinson fight was a classic as well. To be fair though he wasnt known as the human highlight reel for nothing. What a warrior.

My personal favorite Gatti fight is his KO win over Gabriel Ruelas that was dubbed "1997s Fight of the Year." Gatti-Robinson I is a close second.

muhammad ali/cassius clay was involved in Ring Magazine's fight of the year 6 times starting in 1963 and ending with his fight against Leon Spinks.........see link below for the list of winners of that award.

Sorry man...........choosing the best Gatti fight is just too tough...........if you have a Gatti fight that won fight of the year then you know it's a fight that goes down as an all time great........if i had a gun to my head and had to choose then i guess i'd choose the 2002 fight against Mickey Ward.........coming into that fight Gatti was an all action fighter and Mickey had just been involved in the fight of the year the year before.........Ward vs. Burton.........................combine those two things and we should've seen it coming..........if you want to get people to come back to boxing that used to watch it.............show them that fight!!!!   It would make a believer out of anyone!!

Funny thing is that i'm looking over the list of winners for fight of the year and it looks like Gatti would've had another one for his second fight with Ward........the only reason that didn't happen is because it lost out to either the first or third fight of the same trilogy...........kinda like Vasquez/Marquez I this past year.
