I will be going to Aruba in June and was wondering if anyone can give me any idea where to eat, what is there to do over there. Also if anyone ever stayed at the renaissance hotel and casino. What is this hotel like, and is it a nice place to stay. Details please. Thanks

  1. Renaissance is good. Best thing about it is indeed it's private island, as someone else also mentioned. There are good places nearby to eat, definitely El Gaucho (meat), Driftwood (fish), both nearby the hotel (walking distance). Then you have Marina Pirata (fish), Sole Mare (Italian), further away, you'll have to take a cab. Cabs have fixed fares and are not allowed to charge per costumer. A great place I have discovered the last time I was there and that I really enjoyed was Bingo Cafe in a place called Nord, you'll have to go by cab. Lovely atmosphere, good food. You'll surely return night after night. Try their Asian salad and their sate with peanut butter sauce. Don't do their creme brulee, horrible. Everything else, tops. Enjoy.

  2. I have been to Aruba twice and stayed for 5 days at the Marriott.  There are plenty of restaurants in and near the hotels both in the city and around the beach hotels.

There is not a lot to do in Aruba other than beach stuff like snorkel, swim, jet ski, sail, or just sun on the beach.  The once great tourist attraction, the Natural Bridge, fell a few years ago and if you do an island tour a half day is about all you will need.  Some people may say go to Baby Beach, but its really not worth the drive to get there.  All of the other beaches are just as or nicer.

  3. gaucho, great food....its your basic aruba hotel....i won good money on a sunday when i was there..

  4. Yes, we stayed at the Renaissance and loved it because of the small private island they own just off the coast. The hotel provides a boat that will take you over there in a 15-minute ride.

It's called Renaissance Island and has two small, protected coves with beautiful white sand, pink flamingoes that walk up to you, a collection of parrots, etc. It was the most relaxing place we have ever visited.

That said, Aruba has an OK nightlife, plenty of good restaurants along the strip where the Renaissance is located and the usual list of watersports and other activities. Aruba is fairly strong on scuba diving and snorkeling. Things to see include the California Lighthouse, national park, butterfly farm, island caves and Ostrich Farm.

  5. Am Jamaican but i lived in aruba for a while  The beach is great night life casino restaurant with french itailan ect casino is all over but then you need to get into town

  6. Renaissance is a very nice hotel and has some of the best entertainment too. You won't be disappointed.

Across the street from the high rise hotels is restaurant row and a shopping mall so if you're not all-inclusive you'll find plenty of places to eat.

My favorites on the island are:

    El Gaucho/steak house-Oranjestad

The Flying Fishbone/seafood-Savaneta (on the water w/toes in the sand)

The Astoria/steak,seafood,chicken-San Nicolas (I highly recommend the Grouper it is caught fresh daily)

    Coco Beach/burgers,wings,shrimp (cold beer-good waiters-fun food-and best of all at a quiet beach)-at Baby's Beach
