  1. Hi.  First of all, May is a great time of year to go to Aruba.

Second, skip Venuzuela.  Aruba's a great island and you'll kick yourself if you decide to jump elsewhere.  Plus Venezuela isn't very safe.

Last, your resort should depend on what type of "feel" you want for this.  My favorite low-rise is Bucuti.  I love the Tara Wing Suites (so do my clients) and the dinner on the beach is a very romantic option.  This resort is on one on the widest stretches of beach (Eagle) and the staff is great.

If you prefer a high rise, I suggest the Radisson.  This resort has it all - great beach, two pools, excellent burgers at Gilligans, located near the piers (for snorkel/sunset sailing trips) and a GREAT spa.  A word of advice - take a slightly higher room caregory.  You do not want to end up near the buffet restaurant for breakfast.

    Congrats and enjoy "my island!"

  2. Been to Aruba 16 times and highly recommend the Bucuti for a honeymoon.

Marriott no longer offers an all inclusive package.

Weather is going to be hot in May. Average high of 89 degrees F.

May want to hold off on a trip to Venezuela with present political tensions and it is not the safest country in the world to begin with.

"SAFETY AND SECURITY:  Violent crime in Venezuela is pervasive, both in the capital, Caracas, and in the interior.  The country has one of the highest per-capita murder rates in the world.  Armed robberies take place in broad daylight throughout the city, including areas generally presumed safe and frequented by tourists.  A common technique is to choke the victim into unconsciousness and then rob them of all they are carrying.  Well-armed criminal gangs operate with impunity, often setting up fake police checkpoints.  Kidnapping is a particularly serious problem, with more than 1,000 reported during the past year alone. According to press reports at least 45 foreigners have been kidnapped in the first eight months of 2007.  Investigation of all crime is haphazard and ineffective.  In the case of high-profile killings, the authorities quickly round up suspects, but rarely produce evidence linking these individuals to the crime.  Only a very small percentage of criminals are tried and convicted.

Maiquetía Airport, the international airport serving Caracas, is dangerous and corruption is rampant.  Concerns include personal property theft, mugging, and “express kidnapping” in which individuals are taken to make purchases or to withdraw as much money as possible from ATMs, often at gunpoint.  The Embassy has received multiple, credible reports that individuals with what appear to be official uniforms or other credentials are involved in facilitating or perpetrating these crimes.  For this reason, American citizen travelers should be wary of all strangers, even those in official uniform or carrying official identification.  There are also known drug trafficking groups working from the airport.  Travelers should not accept packages from any persons and should keep their luggage with them at all times.

Because of the frequency of robberies at gunpoint, travelers are encouraged to arrive during daylight hours if at all possible.  If not, travelers should use extra care both within and outside of the airport.  The Embassy strongly advises that all arriving passengers make advance plans for transportation from the airport to their place of lodging.  If possible, travelers should arrange to be picked up at the airport by someone who is known to them.  The Embassy has received frequent reports recently of armed robberies in taxicabs going to and from the airport at Maiquetía.  There is no foolproof method of knowing whether a taxi driver at the airport is reliable.  The fact that a taxi driver presents a credential or drives an automobile with official taxi license plates marked “libre” is no longer an indication of reliability.  Incidents of taxi drivers in Caracas overcharging, robbing, and injuring passengers are common.  Travelers should take care to use radio-dispatched taxis or those from reputable hotels.  Travelers should call a 24-hour radio-dispatched taxi service from a public phone lobby or ask hotel, restaurant, or airline representatives to contact a licensed cab company for them."

  3. I have been there once, and am going again in a few weeks. There are some bed and breakfast places that you can stay for cheap. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-...

The Marriot is also very nice.

No matter the time of year, it will be warm, the constant breeze though is awesome.

I agree with the comment above, skip Angel Falls until it is more settled. Try Curaçao or Bonaire for an added stop!

  4. been there a few times.....stay at the divi divi.get a delux room..food is good the weather is awsome..downtown hotel area is to vacationy...the tam had the best beach, but it washed away..

  5. I have been to Aruba twice.  Once was by cruise ship and the other time we stayed 5 days at the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino on Palm Beach:  (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/au...  ).  The hotel is all inclusive and we booked a package that included a daily breakfast buffet.  We preferred to not have dinner included so that we could try some other places to eat.

Our trip when we stayed at the Marriott was in May and the weather was perfect.  Aruba has a constant breeze blowing, like about 15 or so MPH all of the time.  So that helps keep the humidity and heat down.  WE booked our air and hotel separately.  If you want to go to South America you'll have to book an airline flight there because although its only about 25 to 30 miles to Venezuela, there is no ferry service to/from there or between the other ABC islands (Caracao & Bonaire).

  6. i strongly urge to do not go to corrupt Aruba. From federal government to local government even police department. Yes island may look great. but you will need think about crime problems that occurs inside Aruba. Do not be fool when people of Aruba stated our nation is safe. If safe, why police deparment did not do something about missing teenager Natalie Holloway. Time after Time we know the real story what happen. Problem is safety.

If you are considering travel overseas check with safety such embassy, police
