Arun George crushes Rahul Yadav C. in first round of the All India Junior Ranking Tournament
India’s Arun George proved his mettle as he made his mark over Rahul Yadav C. in the first round of Boy’s Singles U-17 category at the All India Junior Ranking Tournament, in Chandigarh, India, on Wednesday, October 5.
The top seed, Arun showed that he has the potential to beat the best shuttlers contesting in the event. He took just 26 minutes to prove his supremacy over his opponent in a straight-set fight which entertained spectators with quality badminton.
The first game of the match was interesting as both shuttlers displayed wonderful attacking strokes. The cracking sounds of powerful shots could be heard at the huge indoor arena in Chandigarh. As the match progressed, Arun started to dominate the pace of
the rallies by taking the bird early. His positive play helped him to take a small lead of 11-9 at the break.
After the interval, Arun continued his impressive game throughout the opening game by injecting more speed into his strokes. Rahul failed to respond to the perfectly placed shots of his rival who was just uncontrollable. Arun won the opening set with a margin
of 21-18 by taking just 14 minutes of court time.
The second game of this opening round match was scintillating as both boys remained toe-to-toe in the first-half of the game. They were employing everything to dominate the rallies. The cheering crowd supported both shuttlers as they were playing a top-class
game. Until the one-minute interval, Arun set up a decent lead of 11-7.
After the break, Arun started to play semi-smashes on the fore-hand side of his challenger and earned an advantage as his perfectly placed strokes put his opponent in trouble. His impressive game in the second set spared no chance for his rival to resist.
Arun clinched the second set in remarkable fashion with the score of 21-11, by taking only 12 minutes in the court. This wonderful straight-set contest went in the favour of Arun by a 21-18 and 21-11 score on the board.
