Arun George storms into Boy’s Singles U-17 final of 2011 All India Junior Ranking Tournament
India’s young and spirited shuttler, Arun George stormed into the Boy’s Singles U-17 final after displaying attacking badminton against Sanyam Shukla, in the semi-final showdown of the 2011 All India Junior Ranking Tournament, in Chandigarh, India, on Thursday,
October 6.
Arun’s performance in the semi-final match proved that the country is rich in talent as young shuttlers are ready to play on a greater level. He played a tremendous game throughout the match and won it in straight games in a one-sided manner, by taking just
23 minutes in the court.
Both boys exchanged wonderful rallies in the opening points of the first game by hitting the bird hard from all areas. Along with powerful smashes, the defensive strokes from both sides were also incredible. However, until the break, Arun managed to occupy
the driving seat and set up a reasonable lead of 11-8.
After the break, the contest remained interesting in the first few rallies when Sanyam accelerated his speed and played some fabulous strokes on the side lines of the court. However, Arun maintained the difference by playing positive badminton throughout
the remaining points.
Sanyam employed his changed tactics but failed to reduce the deficit as his rival was in no mood to slow down the pace of the game. Arun finished the first game in wonderful fashion by a margin of 21-15 in just 14 minutes.
In the second set, Sanyam tried to cope up with the speed of his challenger but slowed down after a few rallies. Arun injected more power in his strokes to pace up the rallies and took a five-point lead by reaching at 11-6 until the break.
After the interval, Arun remained on track by playing attacking badminton. He spared no chance for Sanyam to fight back in the game. He took just 11 minutes to end the second set by a 21-11 margin. The overall result of this semi-final battle was 21-15 and
21-11.
In the final, Arun will take on Rupinder Singh, who defeated Shreyansh Jaiswal in three sets in the other semi-final.
