Aruna to defend her title in the Juddmonte Spinster
Flaxman Stable’s 5-year-old mare, Aruna, in comparison to her previous two seasons is having the worst time out on the field this season, where she has landed just one race out of 4, but the winning tally might go up by one when she comes out to defend her title in the Grade 1, $500,000 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes at Keeneland against 12 rivals on 6 October, 2012.
Also, the Juddmonte Spinster is a “Win and You’re In” race for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic to be held at Santa Anita Park on 2 November, 2012, so Graham Motion trained mare has still a few more races to go to turn her season around.
If Aruna goes on to land the Juddmonte Spinster Stakes for the second time running, she will become the only fourth filly or mare to achieve the feat, and before her Take Charge Lady did it in the 2002-03 season, Bayakoa in 1989-90, and Bornastar did it way back in the 1957-58 season.
The Mr. Greeley mare was guided to victory in the 2011 test for older fillies and mares by jockey, Ramon Dominguez, and the veteran jockey returns to pilot the mare once again, as they will break from post number 3 at 124 pounds.
Another 5-year-old mare in the lineup of 13 fillies and mares is Steve Hobby trained, Tiz Miz Sue, who has raced seven times this season, and has been keeping company with the top fillies on the East Coast this summer.
The daughter of Tiznow, has been consistently running on dirt for four seasons, but will return to polytrack for the first time since 2009.
"Today was the first day she had been on Polytrack since Arlington," trainer Steve Hobby said Oct. 4. "That was part of the reason in running here because I knew she would handle it. I don't know if I would have run her here had she not run on it before."
Out of Woodman’s mare Sue’s Good News, Tiz Miz Sue is exiting a fourth place finish in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign Stakes, and before that she has been consistently hitting the money in all 6 previous starts this season.
She will break from post number 6 under jockey J. Rocco, Jr.
