Arundhati Pantawane defeats Li Michelle to enter into main round of the Singapore Open Super Series
India’s Arundhati Pantawane has booked her seat in the Women’s Singles main round after beating Canada’s Li Michelle in the qualifying round of the 2011 Singapore Open Super Series, held in Singapore City, on June 14, 2011.
Arundhati continued her winning run in the qualifying round of the event and over-powered Michelle in three-sets of 46 minutes.
The Indian shuttler was in complete control of the match by playing top-class badminton with a great touch of precision. She is gradually finding her momentum in the event, as she has accommodated herself with the conditions of the court.
In the opening set, the Indian kept her speed quite high to take the game away from the Canadian, who was playing with an average pace. Arundhati made Michelle work hard to return her perfectly placed strokes in all corners of the court. The spirited Indian
got a one-set advantage by clinching the first game in an impressive manner with a superb margin of 21-14, in just 14 minutes.
The following set was completely opposite to the previous game as the Canadian made a fantastic comeback by playing attacking badminton. Michelle utilised every opportunity of hitting the bird hard on the side lines of her opponent’s court. Her tremendous
shot placement disturbed the flow and movement of the Indian, who made many mistakes in this second game and lost it by a 14-21 margin, in 15 minutes.
Both shuttlers elevated their level of play in the third game in front of the cheering local crowd. The score was levelled in the concluding part of the match, when the Indian took control of the rallies and managed to clinch the game by a score of 21-19,
in 17 minutes. The end result of this 46-minute three-set contest was 21-14, 14-21 and 21-19.
In the main round of the Women’s Singles draw, the Indian will take on Tzu Ying Tai of Chinese Taipei, which will be a good match to watch out for as the Taipei shuttler has extensive experience in the game.
