Arundhati Pantawane wins her first round contest at 36th Yonex Polish International 2012
India’s young player Arundhati Pantawane got a perfect start when she defeated Sri Lanka’s Achininimeshika Rathnasir Kapuru Mudiyanselage in Women’s Singles first round of 36th Yonex Polish International 2012, in Poland, on Friday, March 23.
Arundhati, who has been placed at number 61 in Women’s Singles world rankings, showed her aggressive skills and managed to win the contest against her Sri Lankan opponent in an emphatic fashion.
The Indian did not consume much time in the court as she took just 20 minutes to register victory over Achininimeshika in straight games without facing any trouble.
In the opening set, both ladies played fast badminton and remained close in first few rallies. However, Arundhati started to play positive and aggressive badminton and managed a small lead until the break.
After the interval, the Indian continued her power play and remained successful in taking the first set with a margin of 21-16.
In the second game, Arundhati was everywhere in the court as she played to her maximum potential and did not spare any chance for her opponent to put up strong resistance.
Achininimeshika could not play fast badminton in this game and remained trailing miles behind on the score board.
The Indian remained in complete control throughout the second set and bagged it with a tremendous margin of 21-8.
Arundhati won this Women’s Singles opening round fight with a convincing 21-16 and 21-8 score on the board.
After the match, Arundhati said, "I took some time to adjust to the new courts. That was the reason I conceded 16 points in the first game. However, once I adjusted, I began to play my strokes freely and raced to win quickly."
In the second round, Arundhati will play against Japan’s Ai Goto, who is the top seed in the tournament.
She said, "No doubt, it will be very tough match against Goto. My target will be to fight for each point. I will give my 100%."
In the previous edition of this tournament, Arundhati delivered a sensational performance and managed to reach into quarter-final stage. This time she is determined to deliver his best again earn glory for her country.
