Arunima Sinha requires to be shifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences for better care
Arunima Sinha, a national level volleyball player who fell victim to a robbery incident while she was on a train and got pushed by the robbers, resulting in the loss of her leg, has not yet reached sanctuary.
The National Commission for Women made it known today that the player is in need of another surgery because her amputated leg has been infected.
Arunima was travelling to Delhi from Lucknow when this tragic incident took place. The robbers, who were after the chain she was wearing, pushed Arunima off in the scuffle. Arunima fell on to the next tracks and was hit by another train. This left her with
a severed leg and multiple fractures on the other one.
From that point on, Arunima has been suffering various traumas. Firstly, the government tried to compensate the loss of the player’s leg just by offering her the amount of Rs. 25,000. An enraged Arunima protested against this and did not accept the money.
Arunima demanded that she be given a government job that would enable her to make her future financially safe. Arunima said that a job is more important than financial aid as it would give her the means to be independent and not be a burden to anyone.
The reason for Arunima’s journey from Lucknow to Delhi was to appear for a test being conducted for a government job. Sadly, the 23-year-old volleyball player could not make it to her destination and fell victim to a treacherous twist of fate in which she
had to lose her leg.
It is now urgently required that the national player be shifted from the hospital she is currently in to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences where she would be taken better care of.
“Sonu should be immediately shifted to AIIMS so that proper care can be ensured for her. She was shifted to Lucknow but I think she should be brought here. Government should do it as part of its responsibility,” NCW acting chairperson Yasmeen Abrar said.
It is hoped that Arunima will be duly compensated and will be able to become a functional part of the society.
