Arvane Rezai ousts Sorana Cirstea in the second round – Texas open 2011
French Aravane Rezai flabbergasted Romaine Sorana Cirstea by scoring a straight set victory of 6-2, 7-6(4) in the second round of the Texas Open 2011. The two were fencing on  hard courts of  Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas
for the first time and Rezai had secured a berth in the third round in just 90 minutes of play.
Rezai had bagged a 75% win of her first serves but in the next few moments she also struck 4 net balls, one would’ve thought she forgot to wear her spectacles. Nevertheless, she had managed to win a total of 60% of her total service
points.
Mean while, it was just not Cirstea’s day as she was only able to target only 38% of her first serves and instead, had an average win of 44% in the first serves and a pitiable 33% win in the second serves of the opening set. Hence,
her overall score had plummeted to a 38% win of the total service points.
Although both the players had a better return serve than their serves, Rezai’s return was an exceptional 63% win of the total return points against Cirstea, who had mustered a win of 40% in the total return points.
Cirstea had an extremely appalling defence and was only able to save one break point out of the 4 on her serve and was able to convert 1 out 3 break points to her advantage. Whereas, the 24 year-old French had broken her opponent’s
serve thrice to take a lead on the score card.
Eventually Rezai served the set to her opponent by accomplishing almost twice as many points as her Romaine challenger.
After taking a thrashing in the first set, the second set saw Cirstea to a jump start, as she was able to target 52% of her first serves on target and also had an average consistent performance in her first and second serve, thus,
winning a 48% of her total service points.
In addition, Cirstea had seen an improvement in her return and was able to reuse her back hand to achieve a win of 49% in the total return points of the set and had a geometric precision.
Rezai had attained a 51% win of her total service points, along with, a 52% win of her total return points that enabled her to achieve a total set score of 45 out of 87 points, making it a 52% win of total set points.
Both players had very similar points but Cirstea committed a double fault on the break point to lose the game, taking the set to a tie-break. Even though, she tried her best it was unfortunate as she was still not able to win in
the tie break and lost the match.
