Arvidsson/ Dellacqua lose to Brianti/ Cirstea in semi-final – Texas Open 2011
The first two teams to contest the semi final of the Texas Open 2011, were that of Alberta Brianti with Sorana Cirstea taking on Sofia Arvidsson partnering Casey Dellacqua. On the hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas the squads dulled until Italian Alberta Brianti and Romanian Sorana triumphed with a comprehensive victory of 6-3, 6-3 in just 57 minutes of play.
The Swedish and Australian duo had perfected their accuracy and with extreme precision had committed zero double faults, while, the Italian and Romanian pair had struck one foot fault.
Luck was not on Arvidsson/ Dellacqua’s side as they not only had an average serve, which won them only 56% of their total service points in the set but they were also unable to save the two break points on their serve though they managed to convert only one of three opportunities to their advantage.
Mean while, Brianti/ Cirstea with their well placed shots and strong ground strokes won 59% of their service points in the set and were able to save a grand 2 of 3 break points on their serve, along with breaking their opponents 2 times, hence, winning a forty percent of their break points.
Although, the Swede/Aussie pair had a relatively better serve than their return, they were only able to bag 12 out of 29 return points, making it an average 41% win against the Italian/ Romanian brass, who had 11 out of 25 points, a 44% win in the total return points of the opening set.
Team Italy and Romania won the set with 28 out of 54 points, which was a 52% win of their total set points in the set.
The second set was yet another comprehensive victory and although, the players wanted to defeat each other Brianti/ Cirstea served the set to their rivals by restricting them to only three games.
Amidst the second set the players had a failing precision with both the teams striking one double fault each but the only time the Australian and Swedish couple smashed an ace was to secure a game.
In the second set Brianti and Cirstea had improved their return and with a good sync they managed to outmanoeuvre their opponents, winning 62% of their total return points and 58% of their total set points.
