Arvidsson/Dellacqua oust Dekmeijere/Levy in quarter final; ease into semi-final – Texas Open 2011
Latvian Līga Dekmeijere and American Megan Moulton-Levy lost to Swede Sofia Arvidsson and Australian Casey Dellacqua in the quarterfinal of the Texas Open 2011. The players duelled on hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine,
Texas. Team Sweden and Australia triumphed over team Latvia and America by surviving a mid match crisis of 7-5, 5-7, 10-8 in simply 1 hour and 26 minutes.
A great sync between the Swede and the Aussie enabled them to a win of 66% in the total service points against, the Latvian/American duo who were only able to win 34% of their total return points because they had a failing defence
in the opening set.
Additionally, they had a sturdy defence that did not falter and were able to break their adversaries twice, hence gaining the statistical edge that they required.
Mean while, Arvidsson/Dellacqua had an above average serve which assisted them in achieving 58% of their total service points but Dekmeijere/Levy had a better return than theirs and bagged win of 42% in the total return points.
By restricting their opponents to only five games in the set Arvidsson and Dellacqua clogged the set and won it winning five more points than their rivals.
Worn out from the first set, Arvidsson/Dellacqua were not able to win the second set and instead, saw a complete reversal of fate. This time they were only able to win 5 games off of their challengers and had nose-dived in their
performance.
Dekmeijere/Levy were better players than Arvidsson/Dellacqua; they not only had a powerful serve but also had a very strong defence which did not falter and hence, won 56% in the overall scores of the set (in service points, return
points each). They re-bounded all their opponent’s shots directing then towards their adversaries and thus won the set with 8 points more than the Swedish and Australian pair.
Frustrated from the second set, the Swede and the Aussie made a comeback in the super tie breaker by completely regaining control over their game. It was a strong rally between the contesters, hitting a point for a point though
eventually Arvidsson and Dellacqua managed to win two successive points and snatched the super tie breaker away from their Latvian and American opponents.
