Arvind Bhat defeats Yun Lung Chan in Men’s Singles qualifying round of Hong Kong Open Super Series
India’s Arvind Bhat proves his skill as he has defeated Yun Lung Chan of Hong Kong in his first match of Men’s Singles qualifying round of the Hong Kong Open Super Series, in Hong Kong, on Tuesday, November 15.
The World Number 56, Bhat emerged as the winner in the rubber-set match after playing wonderful badminton for 55 minutes. The Indian remained focused in the match proving that he has achieved good skills and overwhelmed his opponent after a hard fight.
In the opening game of the match, both players employed their superb skill at the net and in the rear-court area to dominate the pace of the game but nobody could manage a reasonable lead. The score remained close as the game was proceeding at the same pace from both sides until the break.
After the break, the local shuttlers, who was having the support of the home crowd, played aggressive game and started to build a lead. The Indian failed to play attacking badminton as his opponent was not sparing any room for attacking game. Bhat committed a few unforced errors in the second half and lost the first set with a margin of 15-21.
The second set was completely different as Bhat came in the court with an attacking approach this time. He started to rely on net strokes which forced Yun Lung to lift the bird high in the air and helped the Indian to execute powerful smashes. Bhat executed beautiful down the line smashes in his opponent’s court and levelled the match by bagging the second game with a one-sided margin of 21-12.
The final set of this interesting match grabbed the attention of the local crowd as both shuttlers were putting their best in the battle. No one gave up until the score reached at the ending phase, when Bhat played mature badminton and emerged as the winner with a dramatic score of 23-21.
The Indian took the 55-minute opening match after working extra hard by putting a 15-21, 21-12 and 23-21 score on the board.
