Arvind Bhat overpowers David Obernosterer in Men’s Singles round-of-16 at Canada Open Grand Prix
Arvind Bhat, an in-form shuttler from India, make his fans happy as he stormed into Men’s Singles top-eight stage after crushing David Obernosterer of Austria in round-of-16 encounter at the Yonex Canada Open Grand Prix 2012 on Thursday, July 12, in Canada.
Arvind, who is fourth seeded player in Men’s Singles category in Canada Open, was quite confident on court as he spared no chance for his rival to take control of the game and won the battle without giving away any set.
The in-form Arvind worked really well on court as he did not let his rival to put up strong resistance and wrapped up victory by ending up the winning run of Obernosterer in straight games in just 34 minutes.
The lower ranked Austrian, on the contrary, played good badminton all the way but failed to maintain his rhythm in the ending points and lost the contest to his higher ranked rival without snatching any set.
The opening game started in a sensational fashion when both men showed their aggressive approach on court and they progressed equally until the score reached at 8-8.
At this stage, the Indian man failed to maintain his speed and conceded three consecutive points to remain trailing at 8-11 until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Arvind changed his tactics at net and started to employ deceptive shots which helped him to make the score equal on the board until 14-14.
The Indian continued his elevated and positive performance and snatched the opening game with a 21-17 score on the board.
In the second set, Arvind kept his upper hand from the opening points and also was leading the score board until the mid-game interval when he was three-points ahead of his Austrian rival at 11-8.
After the one-minute break, Arvind remained consistent in his composed play and did not let Obernosterer to level the score at any stage.
The Indian shuttler bagged the second game in a spectacular fashion with a superb 21-16 score on the board.
Arvind won this pre-quarter-final showdown against Obernosterer in straight games with a comfortable score of 21-17 and 21-16.
