Arvind Bhat proceeds to third round of Men’s Singles event - Bitburger Badminton Open Update
India’s budding shuttler Arvind Bhat served notice of his potential in the second round of Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold and moved into the pre quarter-finals on October 31, 2012.
He outclassed Matthieu Lo Ying Ping of France by piling up the concluding figures of 21-16 and 21-9. This 27-minute encounter took place at Saarbrucken in Germany and both contenders entertained the local crowd with a fine display of badminton skills.
Arvind Bhat, who was underrated earlier in this tournament, registered his presence by sealing a splendid straight-set victory.
He laid the foundation of his dominance straight away in the beginning of first set and enjoyed the upper hand until last shot was played.
The Indian youngster did not waste time and gained an early advantage with 5-2 margin. Though, next couple of rallies saw him struggling but still he did not allow his rival to establish a significant lead.
Arvind gathered few valuable points in a row and placed a decent total of 11 just before the interval.
Later part of the game was also played in similar manner as the French campaigner showed some spark and counter-balanced the situation but his fluctuated performance ultimately led him to a woeful defeat.
Ying Ping remained close on the points table until 15-16 and this cliff hanging tussle ended when Arvind placed an overwhelming 21-16 score.
The second set, which proved the decider later, turned into a dead contest as the Indian shuttler stole the limelight with a lustrous performance.
This time he unleashed a flurry of well placed strokes and established an early grip over the game with 6-3 total.
He made best out of this advantage to finish first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11-5.
After the one-minute break, Arvind proved himself superior in all areas of the game and transformed his 1-0 lead into a straight-set victory.
He piled up a mountainous figure of 17-7 in no time and then swept the table with a notable difference in 21-9 margin.
Now he is scheduled to meet a higher ranked competitor, Andre Kurniawan Tedjono in the pre quarter-finals of this Grand Prix Gold event.
