As Americans, why do we go on about change and hating corrupt politicians?

yet when it comes down election time we continue to to choose from the same tired old Democrats and Republicans like we actually believe they're going to do something different and good for us.

Then when no "change" is brought about and all those campaign promises aren't kept we complain about it.

Do we truly have anyone else to blame but ourselves?

Is so simple. Americans want to think that the country is going in the right direction. When they feel that is not happening they go to vote. The result is what we live with for 4 years.
