Ok, the Aussies always do well, but really I think deep down we are 'disapointed' at our medal tally! Have we become to 'big for our boots', did we come to expect to much from our athletes, especially our swimmers, and where to from here? I f we don't finish 4th overall, will that be a HUGE disappointment?

We generally can only accept defeat if the leading countries are current of former Super Powers with 10-20 times our population.

  1. We unfortunately go through cycles of ups and downs. Remember these headlines WE ARE GOING TO SMASH THE AUSSIES LIKE GUITARS the rest is history. Well china and the usa have turned these games upside consider this me again competitors 30plus 40plus bloody terrific having a go##

  2. Speak for yourself. I disagree.  I am proud of all the Gold of course but also extremely proud of the other medals as well.  I am also really proud of competitors like the Ping Pong guys who probably had no chance of winning but put up a good fight against the Chinese.  We all like to win but I am also so proud of our Australian athletes because they are not only gutsy competitors but display good sportsmanship.  They are great down to earth lovely people who represent our country well.  We do great for our little country and I know all our athletes give all they can.  Maybe a some more support from the government for some sports would help.

  3. I beg to differ Sandra. Have you read the news? In fact have you read anything journalists have written about our athletes? Its really sad to see how they like to talk themselves up but when an athlete comes 2nd even 3rd its considered a disappointment or a failure. I mean we are talking silver and bronze hello thats good enough for me. Regardless we should still be proud of them whether they win gold or not.

It seems like their main focus is on the swimming because theyre expecting gold from that department. But what about the other athletes who trained for 4 yrs and didnt even get a medal? Shouldnt they get recognition for making it this far? I say shame on australia. We should be supporting our aussies no matter what the circumstances are
