As Brandon Belt moves to First Base, what’s next for Travis Ishikawa?
For Travis Ishikawa it proved to be nothing more than business when he was not considered to lead the first base position with his prowess.
The player, who had been with the squad for the last nine years, will now be looking for another team to play for as rookie Brandon Belt will take his place in the 25-man roster.
Ishikawa had been with the San Francisco Giants from 2002 and moved on to the first baseman position as an irregular cast. He was unable to hold his position over his tenure as his contribution dipped over the years.
He was pulled into the team as a defensive player and a pinch hitter. As a hitter he availed 15 for 47 in hitting chances. He had a batting average of .319, which is considered the seventh highest feat in the National League.
Ishikawa was hoping to go to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers but his expectations met an abrupt end. He said:
"I planned on making the trip, so I packed for Los Angeles. I've been saying all spring it's a business, it’s part of the game. I've been around here long enough, you can see. You kind of anticipate these things. Definitely it's tough to chew when it actually
happens.
The last week or so I thought I was on the team. Today showed that it is a business. I understand that the Giants are trying to move forward and get back to repeating as world champions. I'll definitely take these last nine or 10 years to heart”.
Ishikawa told the press that he wishes the club the best of luck. As for his position, he affirmed that he would be looking for another team to play for.
However, he did cite that if he were not to play this year, he would certainly support the Giants.
