As Dale Sveum becomes Chicago Cubs’ manager, Milwaukee Brewers look forward to tough competition
The Milwaukee Brewers players expressed their delight to have a new rival in Dale Sveum, their former hitting coach now holding the managerial responsibility of the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs and Brewers are considered to be arch rivals.
After remaining the third-base and bench coach, Sveum was to later take charge as the hitting coach for the Brewers until he became the part of the Chicago Cubs, a team trying to piece together after 91 losses that they had in this season.
The Brewers had a wonderful record under his auspices. Popularity is what Sveum has had in 2008 when he joined the Brewers on an interim basis. It was due to lack of Major League experience that he could not retain the position and Ken Macha became the Brewers’
manager.
However, as Sveum was officially introduced as the 52nd manager of the Chicago Cubs on Friday, there was a thrill in the Brewers camp as players will be looking ahead for the competitions against the Cubs in the 2012 regular season.
"I'm thrilled for Dale," said Ryan Braun, Milwaukee's National League MVP candidate. "Certainly well-deserved, and it will be difficult for us to replace everything he brought to our team every day."
Sveum was interviewed by Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer despite the fact that they had a familiarity with him, an acquaintance of 2004 when he coached the Boston Red Sox and the former two were discharging their responsibility in their respective capacity.
Jonathan Lucroy of the Brewers said, "He deserves it because he definitely put his time in," catcher Jonathan Lucroy said. "It's too bad that he's going to be managing the Cubs, but that's OK because it will only make it more interesting when we play each
other."
The chief rival for the Brewers, the Chicago Cubs, may well play the 2012 season with some advantage as Sveum is cognizant of the weaknesses and the strength that the Brewers players have. Whether that happens or not is something that cannot be said with
certainty now as the Cubs are definitely stronger than ever before with the arrival of Sveum.
