  1. I think that exposes a certain inclination to be prejudiced against people be putting people into groups.  You indicate that he is "so old" even though he is in good health and should have no trouble living through his term.  Reagan was older and lived beyond his two terms.  I don't like hearing people generalize groups of people whether its by age or race or gender.  Obama is much younger of course but he has almost no experience and during this election I hear a lot of bizarre comments made about race and age.  One remark that I heard in Canada last week that really caused me to think was this, would you vote for Obama if he were white and had the same credential.  And of course, no one would.  The man has three years of public service experience, the last two of which have been spent running for national office.  He has made some serious mistakes in office, such as supporting Bush's energy plan while McCain who is also a Repub did not.  Obama has made a lot of mistakes during the campaign and that undlies his lack of experience.  Would you vote for Obama if his name was Wally Bama and was white?  I bet not.  So many people who think they have to vote for Obama so that they are not racist are actually being racist by agreeing to vote for a woefully unqualified candidate.  McCain's age is part of a subtle slogan campaign by the Obama campaign, as is his constant remark that McCain is "out of touch" indicating his just a great big old senile grandpa and that is a prejudicial remark but many who are playing along with the Obama line accept those remarks and do not see them as prejudicial or themselves as being shallow in approaching the election of a President.  McCain has been civil, he is independent and always has been, he is hated by the extreme right and left which means he is where most of us are.  Incidentally, I am a lifelong Dem, very much a liberal but that does not mean that I am stupid.  The DNC is horribly corrupt and they have dummied down this election to trying to enforce political correctness so that no one will think about what they are doing.

  2. Bea Arthur, stronger man than he.  He surely wont ever use the C-word again, out of fear of getting body slammed.

  3. Actually, Ronald Reagan was 69 when he took the oath of office. McCain will be 71 at the time of the Inauguration. Schwarzenegger won't qualify because, in the event something should happen to McCain, he would be able to serve as president. Under the U.S. Constitution, presidents must be native-born citizens.

    Cheney will be 67 at the time of the next Inauguration. Considering his low favorability ratings and the condition of his health, he seems like a poor choice. Giuliani's main credential is his role in an increasingly unpopular war. Giuliani's association with Bernard Kerrick and a train wreck of a personal life tarnish his image.

    McCain needs someone with impeccable conservative credentials who can point to daylight between his policies and those of the Bush administration.

    Bob Barr might be the best choice. If Barr's campaign is derailed, it minimizes the chances of splitting the GOP vote.

    Never happen, of course.

  4. Rudy Giuliani is my choice.

  5. I'd say the ARNOLD.

  6. Cheney, of course.  If he can survive 4 heart attacks, he can survive anything.

  7. Colin Powell.

    ===============================

    There are actually 23 senators that are in office that are older than John McCain. However he will be 72 when he takes office. Reagan was 69 when he began his first term. Eisenhower turned 70 his last few months in office. These were the only presidents who were over age 70 while in office.

    ===============================

    Considering that Obama has much more money and is getting so much more free media attention, I think McCain is probably thinking about someone who is "demographically interesting". If for no other reason, than he can't buy the advertising time he needs. He needs to get on the news.

    =   As someone pointed out, Arnold S. is ineligible. Colin Powell is probably the candidate best known to the public (7 months younger than McCain). JC Watts (age 50) is the other African American who is frequently mentioned.Once again, he is not known to most of the public.

    =  Bobby Jindel (Indian-american) is way way too young. He is barely of legal age to be president.

    =  Elizabeth Dole is more accomplished than Hillary, but she is actually 1 month older than John McCain. Forgive me, but I think this culture will be even more ruthless on an older woman than an older man. The younger women Condaleeza (age 53), Marsha Blackburn (age 56), and Sarah Palin (age 44) are possibilities. Condaleeza is very well known, but I think (once again forgive me) a never-married powerful, middle aged woman is not the first person that middle-America wants to trust as their leader. However, it would be a real test of marketing if you could take someone who is unknown to most of the American public and make her a superstar in a few months.

    --------------------------------------...

      I know it sounds funny, but it's not really about the whole country. McCain has to keep the six states that voted for GW Bush both times, but are now considered marginal. Since the re-apportionment the Bush states have 7 more electoral college votes than they did in the year 2000.  Colin Powell with his military backgound might steal Obama's thunder in these six states by making race a non-issue.

    ======================================...

    BATTLEGROUND STATES THAT VOTED FOR BUSH BOTH TIMES (with electoral college votes)

    Florida-27

    Ohio-20

    Virginia-13

    Missouri-11

    Colorado-9

    Nevada-5

    If McCain keeps these states voting Republican he would win by only 10 electoral college votes. If he loses Nevada it would be a tie and the vote would be decided in the Democratically controlled House of Representatives (for the first time since 1824).  Of course, I am assuming he will win the other 23 states that voted for Bush twice that are already in the McCain camp (as well as can be predicted this early in the campaign).
