As NLCS winds down, St. Louis Cardinals to use full roster – MLB Playoffs
The St. Louis Cardinals’ manager Tony La Russa intends to use the full roster in the ongoing National League Championship Series. Although the experiment involves a bit of complexity, the team manager believes in the ability of the players to get on the
pitchers.
Getting few chances, the players do not get a lot of opportunities at-bats. The fact that the average remains one-bat per day may influence the performance of the player does not deter La Russa to go ahead with the plan.
His reasoning has a strong reason behind it, as almost every hitter punctuating the Cardinals’ offence has got a chance in October where the team has featured in both the National League Division Series and the National League Championship Series.
"They're not getting the four at-bats that would help them be a better pinch-hitter," La Russa said, "[but Allen] Craig and [Daniel] Descalso have started recently. [Ryan] Theriot has started.”
From Lance Berkman to David Freese, from Ryan Theriot to Rafael Furcal, the Cardinals have established a seemingly unshakable ascendancy in the offence in the ongoing best-of-seven game series.
While the abovementioned players discharge their responsibility with efficacy, going characteristically aggressively against the Milwaukee Brewers’ defence, the likes of Albert Pujols and Craig Allen have simply shone more resplendently in the presence of
Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun in the rival camp.
The Cardinals’ team manager, therefore, believes that this is the perfect time to use the best hitters.
A look at the current series brings to fore the remarkable performance of the St. Louis Cardinals’ hitters. They have won their games by big margins. From a 12-3 victory in Game 2 to a 7-1 win in Game 5, even the games where the team has lost have seen the
offence spark.
With the NLCS coming to a close, it will be interesting to see how the Cardinals use their offence in the remaining games as they focus on getting to the World Series. The team will be looking to use their full roster and throw everything they have in the
last few games of this exciting Series.
