As Spring Training nears, Texas Rangers sort out contracts with the players – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ assistant general manager Thad Levine stated on Tuesday, January 24 that Josh Hamilton has been a big part of the team and that matters relating to his free-agency will be considered once the current contract draws closer to an end.
Texas Rangers, which signed one of the big contracts of recent years with Yu Darvish last week is now weighing their options on other players. Josh Hamilton is one of the regular, productive and prolific hitters whose presence for the team is considered
almost necessary.
It was in this context that Levine came up with the statement, asserting the team will look into the matter with all seriousness. Hamilton constitutes a powerful part of the hitting line-up for the Rangers, but he will be a free-agent past this season if
the Rangers do not renew the contract.
"He has been a big part of our club and a major contributor to what we have accomplished," Levine said. "When you get this close to free agency, there are a lot of things that have to be considered, both for the club and the player, and we're working through
those."
The long-term talks are what the Rangers are known to have always done in the past. Among others whose names merit attention are Derek Holland, Colby Lewis and Mike Napoli. A look at the recent past reveals that almost each of the aforementioned players
has performed with keen consistency.
It is their consistency that has lent big victories to the Texas Rangers all this while. Thus from Hamilton to Lewis and from Holland to Napoli, the Rangers keep their focus on the contracts of these players.
Despite all the efforts carried out to go ahead with the deals, there is no tangible result that can be seen. Levine does not attribute this absence of concrete result as their inability to have the players in their fold.
"It's still a priority for us in the offseason to present multiyear contracts to some of our own players," Levine said. "Whether that bears fruit is a mutual decision between ourselves and the player. [The fact] that nothing has come of it yet has not been
from a lack of effort."
While the pitching line-up is almost complete and the strong rotation available to the Texas Rangers, it is about time they looked at the offence as well. Apparently, the Rangers will not overlook it at any price now.
With Spring Training around the corner and the regular season nearing, the Rangers will have a lot of things to settle. They certainly cannot afford to lose sight of having their entire player’s long term presence ensured for success in the new season.
