I am in New Zealand looking for work but running out of time. As a British Citizen am I entitled to a work permit even though I haven`t found work yet?

  1. This is called "General-Australia" Not "General-New Zealand"

Two different countries you know, you will never get citizenship or even a permit if you don't even know that Aus and NZ are two different continents and countries.

  2. Anyone can apply for a work permit, with or without having found work, in NZ, but "entitlement" is too strong a work for it. And that applies to British citizens, too, of course.

If you have entered on a tourist visa, you can certainly apply to change your status to work permit holder, with or without concrete offer or prospect of employment.

That, at least, was the scenario a few months ago when my mother in law came here.

British Citizenship may only become a factor if you are planning to apply for one of the programmes only Commonwealth citizens are eligible for, such as the working holiday visa once used to be.

    To be sure, check here:

I know of no better source than that. It's the official government website on immigration law.
