As a Christian nation, is an Obama presidency acceptable?

As a Christian nation, is it okay for the US to have Obama as president?

I like some of what he said in the speech. But I was upset he did not mention JC in his speech at all.

My youth Pastor says that we are a Christian nation founded by Christians, and it is therefore not acceptable to have a non-believer as a President. He says that Obama's parents took an oath to not believe in God, and that before that they were Muslims. Well, I don't know about all of that, but I do know that Obama is not Christian.

So I wish to ask other Christians out there (if you are not Christian, I don't really care for your answer thanks very much), if I like what Obama might do in regards to health care, is it acceptable for me to vote for him?

  1. And as an agnostic, I don't care very much for a question.  Crawl back to the stoneage you bible-thumper!  America (and the world) would be better off without all organized religion.

By the way, your Youth Pastor is a hate monger.  I'm sure Christ would approve of that kind of behavior.... yeah, right.

Oh, and another thing, I was raised a Southern Baptist, but thankfully I got over the brainwashing.  My sister is in fact a youth minister.  While I agree with most of the teachings of Christ, I do not subscribe to the fear & guilt-driven operations of most all organized religions, especially Christianity and MOST especially the type of close-minded Christianity that you and your youth pastor seem to be practicing.

And hey, Kentucky bimbo down below: Don't apologize for me you arrogant, pompous twist.  I know EXACTLY what I'm doing.  I'm sick of you Creationist creeps trying to spread your voodoo.  Let the rest of us proceed into the 21st century.  You wackjobs hide in the cave.

  2. What makes you think America is a Christian Nation?

It was founded upon FREEDOM of religion.

Its also jewish, muslim, buddhist, hindu, and others.

I suggest you get over yourself.

  3. NONsense!  I wonder where your youth pastor got his information?  He seems to be spreading lies, nontruths and inuendo.  What makes him feel that he is so right?

He surely is judgemental!  Has his mind made up, based on lies. I wonder about his ability to lead the youth of your church, if he believes all that balderdash?

How does he - or you - know that Obama isn't a Christian?

I am a Christian, and I intend to vote for Obama.

  4. i am a christian and your youth pastor has given you wrong information. America is not a christian nation founded by Christians. America is a free religion nation founded by diverse people of all races, ages and ethnicity's finding rest in our free land. and i dont think that you should base your vote on relgion and rather: who would make the better difference in our country. and also you should not be upset that he doesnt say anything about Jesus in his speeches. u r not the only person in the world that he is focusing on he is focusing on every1 and needs 2 make sure that every1 likes him not just the christians.

  5. That's what I like, fundamentalists that don't want to hear it from anyone that isn't like them. I would say you need to do your own research and not listen to everything your youth pastor tells you. Obama is Christian and JC does not need to be involved in every public speech, because frankly, that would be inappropriate. What we were founded as and what we have become are 2 different things. I wasn't here then, I'm here now, and I accept all religions. Nobody is more right then anyone else. This is a presidential election, friend, not a Joel Osteen sermon.

  6. Your youth pastor is mistaken or attempting to mislead you. While the United States is predominantly Christian, it is not a 'Christian nation' in the same manner that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a Muslim nation. Nor was it founded by Christians; most of the founders were humanists and agnostics. Obama lays claim to being Christian and that claim is as valid as anyone else's. While his father was Muslim, he was raised by his mother's relatives, all of whom were Christians.

You've made quite clear that you don't care for my answer, which is your prerogative, but your assumptions are based on untruths. It is perfectly acceptable for you to vote for the candidate that you feel best serves your interests. In that light, I will not personally be voting for Obama.

  7. Your pastor has preconceived ideas. How can he say what is in a mans heart-is he God.  Many cry Lord,Lord but their actions prove them to be unchristian.  Obama cares for the poor and sick-that must say something to you.  Your pastor may be a good man, but he is only a man.  In the end, you have to think for yourself.

  8. Your not much of a Christian or you just call your self that to make yourself feel good. You just broke atleast two of the commandment, tell me which ones?

  9. I don't think he is a Christian based upon his views on race, his background with Jeremiah Wright and his views on abortion.  I believe this country was founded deeply in Christian principles and we still have God on our money and in our national songs.Obama believes differently than these founding truths because he believes in socialism!   For those reasons I believe an Obama presidency to be morally wrong and un-American!

  10. Since Obama is Christian, I don't see your point.

  11. You need to get educated on the matter. Barrack is a Christian. I believe his father was a Muslim at one point but Barrack was not raised by his father and once his parents divorced he only saw him a couple of times. His mother I believe was a Christian but not practicing. So he is also open minded despite his religion.

Being Christian is accepting people of all walks even if you may not agree with their chosen lifestyle, religion etc.

Vote for who you think will be best for the job, the persons religion, gender, race etc is irrelevant.

  12. According to some this is not a Christian nation; they fight it toe and nail.

Obama claims to be Christian; yet welcomes other gods.  Only God is the judge on Obama; not any of us.

  13. I am going to apologize for all the rude answers before me!

Forgive them father for they know not what they do.

Listen to your youth pastor and pray. God will lead you. The answers you received is exactly why we need to elect people who are believers or at least considerate of Christians.

I do believe this Country was founded on Christian Philosophies, this is why so many atheist and Pagans are fighting to have "In God We Trust" taken off of the Currency.

Please pray and let the Lord lead you. God Bless you and thank you for your question.

  14. i really dislike osamma to the max and would hate to see him elected

but i'd rather have him in the white house if he could do away with people who let their religion rule their politics. please study your history. this country was founded on the principle of seperation of church and state. and there is a very good reason for it.

YOU WANT a christian nation--- it is a melting pot!

  15. The United States was founded as a country where one could practice the religion of one's choice, including Christianity, without interference or persecution by the government. In no way was this country founded as a "Christian" nation. Your youth pastor (and some in the answers) are 100% incorrect. Although you, or they, may wish the answer to be different, it just isn't so.

Don't take my word for it, though!

John Adams, the second U.S. President

"The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion."

"Twenty times in the course of my late reading, have I been upon the point of breaking out, 'this would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it.'"

"I almost shudder at the thought of alluding to the most fatal example of the abuses of grief which the history of mankind has preserved -- the Cross. Consider what calamities that engine of grief has produced!"

"Where do we find a precept in the Bible for Creeds, Confessions, Doctrines and Oaths, and whole carloads of trumpery that we find religion encumbered with in these days?"

"The Doctrine of the divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity."

"...Thirteen governments [of the original states] thus founded on the natural authority of the people alone, without a pretence of miracle or mystery, and which are destined to spread over the northern part of that whole quarter of the globe, are a great point gained in favor of the rights of mankind."

    Thomas Jefferson:

"Our civil rights have no dependence on our religious opinions, more than on our opinions in physics and geometry....The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."

"The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as his father, in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter."

James Madison, the fourth President of the U.S.:

"Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise....During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in laity; in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution."

    Benjamin Franklin:

"My parents had given me betimes religious impressions, and I received from my infancy a pious education in the principles of Calvinism. But scarcely was I arrived at fifteen years of age, when, after having doubted in turn of different tenets, according as I found them combated in the different books that I read, I began to doubt of Revelation itself."

    Thomas Paine:

"All natural institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit."

"The most detestable wickedness, the most horrid cruelties, and the greatest miseries that have afflicted the human race have had their origin in this thing called revelation, or revealed religion."

There are pages more where those came from!

  16. heck no.he's for abortion,g*y rights, and evolution-only.He wants to legalize g*y marriage.Megyn Kelly said if that happens,we will constitutionally have to legalize all other types of marriage including polygamy and marriage with animals due to the Equal Protection clause. If that happens,God will destroy our nation as he did with Sodom.
