  1. Talk to a recruiter at an OSO- officer selection office. They will give you the most current up-to-date info!

  2. There's no guarantee you'll ever become an officer.

  3. You get to choose a few different MOS's that you'd like to be in.  If there's an opening in one of them, you'll get it.  However, since you want infantry, you shouldn't have any problem getting that.  That's a large MOS & there are usually plenty of slots available.

  4. When you begin training as an officer in the Marines you go through what many consider the toughest basic training for military officers as Quantico, Va - it is 10 weeks of training that weeds out the wannabes from the legit candidates.  Enlisted boot camp is tougher mentally whereas Officer bootcamp is tougher mentally.    If you make it thorough the basic training then you begin six months of TBS, The Basic School.  In TBS you are exposed to a range of mos capabilites - you learn a little about each of them and then you learn things all Officers need to know - Law of War, Basic Tactics, Orienteering, Leadership etc.   Like I said, it it 6 Months long and in that time there is plenty of opportunity for you to excell - and lots of evaluation by the staff - at some point in TBS you pick three MOS choices and at the end of TBS there is a ranking of all officers,  The class is broken into thirds and the MOS's are divided among the class based on standing.  So the better you do the more likely you are to get the MOS you want. You'd be surprised at the number of guys who wanted infantry who had to settle with artillery or engineers.   Hope this helps, best of luck to you.

  5. Honestly, no officer in any branch gets to pick their MOS (there is a wishlist though). If you do become an officer, however, if you request infantry, you are mostly likely to get it as it is in high demand.

  6. There are few guarantees, but since infantry is as highly sought as, say being a pilot, you've got a good chance. To be safe, have 2nd & 3rd choices.
