  1. They usually assume that I am weird and are shocked that I don't eat meat. What gets me is why do any of them care what we eat? I couldn't care less what other people eat.

  2. I'm a raw food vegan.  My family and friends hate it.  They always say stuff like we can't go anywhere with you and why do you make things so difficult.

Also my mom is always trying to tell me I need more protein or how food is better cooked.

I'm just so tired of hearing it.  On one side of the coin people say eat more fruit and vegetables and then when you do they tell you to eat more meat and cook your food.  I'm really just tired of other peoples opinions.  I have been a raw vegan for 3 years now and have NEVER FELT OR LOOKED BETTER IN MY WHOLE LIFE.

I think everyone else is just jealous that they can't eat and look as good as me!  My friends are always asking what I'm eating and how I stay in shape.  LOL...while they eat there double cheese burger.

  3. I'm a vegetarian. When I told my family I intended on becoming a vegetarian they thought I wouldn't be able to keep it up. Them thinking this just made me want to do it even more.

My friends are OK about it, but I just get a feeling they find it a bit odd. I don't know why though.

Myself and one of my friends were talking about diet and lifestyle one day and I was telling her about my diet. She suddenly became very dismissive and defensive at everything I was saying. As though she thought I was trying to preach at her. If I wasn't a vegetarian I know she wouldn't have acted in the same way. It's like there's some sort of cynicism towards it and prejudice; out of fear.

I was invited to a friends birthday recently - she was having a BBQ. I was the only vegetarian there. It wasn't very nice being surrounded by people all ripping meat off chicken legs. Whilst I just sat there eating a slice of bread. I think people see vegetarians as a burden, as I felt in this case. I really felt like the odd one out, the one who didn't fit in.

  4. Well, as many people know, I live in Ohio. When I was a vegetarian and I turned down meat, I would (obviously) disclose why. When I told people that I was a vegetarian, they'd say, "Oh! You work with animals?! What does that have to do with eating meat?"

And I would reply, "That's VETERINARIAN. A vegetarian doesn't eat meat...".

    Comical? Yes!

    Sad? Even more so.

At any rate, now that I'm a vegan, I find that most people have never heard of the term before. For those who might know a little bit about it, they'll say, "Is that something like a vegetarian?" And I'll reply, "Yes. Something like that." And then elaborate on the dietary specifics.

In both cases, people just look at me like I'm a freak. Some people are really cool though and ask questions about what I eat and the like. I think I'm finally getting used to it.

    Cheers!
