I use my computer to route my satellite signal and currently have a 42" LCD. I want to add a second 52" should I stay with LCD or go plasma. Husb says plasma allows images to burn into the screen faster. True or not true?

  1. Yes plasma can burn out, and burn-ins can be caused in plasma (and CRT) displays. these are not a problem with LCD. Also plasma TVs are heavier, more expensive, and consume more power, but the contrast ratio and color gamut is better on plasm systems.

  2. Plasma will burn in if you use it for a computer monitor text is a killer for burn in. You are better off going for the LCD they run cooler, are lighter (LBS), and use less electricity and a MUCH less prone to burn in. Go with the LCD. If you want proof list the number of plasma computer monitors on the market you won't find them.

  3. Yes. Plasma may look better than LCD, but there is a problem with images that remain on the screen for a long period of time. This 'burn-in' is one drawback for plasma TV, and some manufacturers have addressed this with a subtle 'orbiter', which slowly moves the logos in a circular or other pattern to eliminate the burn-in. When watching network TV, most of the lower right network logos are now a transparent, weak image, which not only helps distraction, but the bad effect on plasma TV's.. (But the pictures are sure better and sharper than LCD, with a wider viewing range without degrading color or intensity.)

  4. Agree with Tom and James above. IT IS TRUE.

For safety reason, try not using plasma tv as computer monitor since there will be more static image (text, picture, etc) than if u r using for watching DVD or satellite TV THAT CAN CAUSE BURN IN IMAGE.

But with current technologies, the BURN IN IMAGE effect is almost gone. 2 years ago, plasma could get burn in easily (just leave your plasma TV around 15 minutes, with static images). Now, it takes more than 10 hours to make that effect happened.

LCD is more efficient, cooler, and good for text and high resolution graphic (plasma has lower resolution than LCD).
