As a democrat, are you saddened by the property damage during the protests today?

I am a hardcore left wing bleeding heart tree hugging liberal, but it really makes me sad that some people were slashing tires in the name of leftist politics. Do any other of my Dem brothers and sisters feel like this was a step backwards for us as a whole? (I know it wasn't Democrats that did this, it was anarchists, but we will be associated with it) How do you feel about this?

  1. The Dems are associated with the anarchists by the media and general public. It is not fair.

  2. Regardless of what side you are on, there are always a group of extremist.

  3. Amen.

I think it bothered me even more after the RNC was basically shut down so that folks could focus on Gustav, yet these whack jobs were still out in force.

And you're right, the sad truth is that the DNC will take the hit for the actions of a few folks who lean about 30 degrees left of Hugo Chavez.

  4. Good question but there are people who will go to any extreme on both sides, even though they think they are doing good work for their cause, they are an embarrassment to everyone, don't worry as a Republican I don't blame anyone and people with a brain are thinking the same way. You must be young and that's good that you are involved with the political process but keep a open mind without Ross Perot the democrats would of lost every election since Jimmy Carter. Thanks for a civil question maybe the adults can take this site back to speak intelligently to each other.

  5. i don't agree with the acts of violence, but i can see where the protesters are coming from. frustration and anger are clouding their reasoning abilities. if this war has taught us anything it is that violence only creates more problems. it is not an anyone's best interest to become the things we are trying to end. as strong left wing myself i can say i do not want to be associated with any violence against republicans either. i know there are better ways to handle dissatisfaction.

  6. You can't take responsibility for what a bunch of anarchists do. They aren't liberals, they aren't democrats. And if people don't get it, there's nothing you can do to convince them otherwise.

  7. This question is biased, why not ask everyone? And to answer your question, I do feel bad that people have to stoop to that level.

  8. As an older Independent who knew the 60's well....I am appalled at the reports of what appears almost like a  'police state' going on in St. Paul.

Here is a site that links to news articles to all the arrests since before the RNC started. The articles state there were groups such as Vets for Peace, CodePink women against the war, a group protesting as Food instead of Bombs, an Anarchist group....even an older Nun was taken away....

I am saddened about the loss of people's right to protest, but not pleased that some protester's were upset enough that they damaged any property. Yet slashed tires, some broken windows, does not qualify for how these protests are being handled, raids on houses, all sorts of things....as stated in these news articles....

There were huge protests in the 60's and people were known to get a bit carried away, the police didn't behave anywhere near how they are here....because it was against the law for them to....

As for the Democrats being blamed, I can't say.....but as to a step into a whole new direction....I would say that is showing itself.

  9. Awwwwww you rock *HUGS*

I'm an independent so I don't get a convention....but its so nice to find at least one post that isn't a smear or even taking sides..

It's probably fleeting...but thank you so much for your post.. <3 ....

  10. These weren't liberals or democrats.  They are nothing more than criminals who use the cover of large gatherings to cause mayhem.

The Democrats do help cause this by being soft on crime.  If we started handing out 20 year sentences this would come to an end real quick.

  11. I'm not with either party and I was truly saddened.

But that's what anarchists do.  Remember the founding fathers and the revolution.

There were nothing but violent protests -- much worse than this.

Also remember when the Republicans in NYC were beating up on young women.  Yes, it's true.  A Young Republican man in a suit jumped a girl and beat the c**p out of her, right on camera.

No one budged, even though it was shown on TV.  But shoppers and people minding their business were swept up in arrests.  The settlement finally happened last week after people were found innocent and received money for what happened when they were arrested and thrown in jail.

Because of a Republican Convention?  That sounds like n**i Germany.  How sad is that?
