attending an evening wedding reception, that involved a nice dinner followed by a fireworks display in lieu of a dance?

  1. It's a nice idea, but you should also have some sort of social hour.  No one says that you have to have music and dancing at your reception.  Maybe something like a string quartet, or classical pianist during dinner, then fireworks and more socializing and the piano/string quartet in the background.  That way you can get a chance to visit with everyone and thank them.

As far as no dancing I don't think that would be a problem!

  2. i'm not always fond of dancing....so it would be just fine!  Dinner and some entertainment...for free?  Count me in!

  3. Well that would be a shorter than normal reception.  Most receptions are 4-5 hours.  The first 1-2 hours is dinner and speeches than then 2-3 hours of dancing.  Seeing as how a fireworks display would only be 15-20 minutes, it would be kind of shorter than people expected.

But, if that's what the couple wants (like they don't like dancing or want to save money on bar costs, etc) than it's up to them.  A lot of people leave receptions after the cake cutting if they don't like dancing, so that would be great for them.

  4. Oh....I think that would be fun AND very different!

  5. really unique & pretty.

some older people may have issue with the noise of the fireworks though.

  6. i would love that!! i hate dancing, so that sounds great!

  7. It's different, so that's cool. It's nice when people think outside the box, so I would love it!

  8. I think that is awsome.  I wish I could do something like that

  9. I would love to see fireworks after a wedding. I think it's an amazing idea!

  10. Nice- very Different!!Do you.

  11. As long as I got fed, and it was free, pfft. No problemo.

  12. Sounds excellent~ dances are so over done now, and you have to worry about drinking and getting everyone home safe at 3 in the morning...good for you for thinking up such a nice idea. Try seeing if you can find a party supply store that sells sparklers that can print your wedding date and names on the package as a take home gift.   :)

  13. Personally, I would like that. The band tends to chase away those guests who are having a great time visiting. Since few weddings have fireworks, that would add some edge to your reception as well.

  14. I think it would rock!!!  As far as greeting guests, make sure you so the rounds during dinner, which might mean that you and your husband eat later.  Sounds like a great evening to me.

    Congratulations!

  15. i think it would be fun.  Where do I sign up?

  16. It depends.  You don't mention any chances to make the rounds and thank your guests properly for attending.  Dinner is great and fireworks would be pretty cool (if you can get the proper permits and afford the pyrotech that they usually require) but I'd definitely feel slighted if I took my night to attend this wedding and brought my gift only to be shoved promptly out the door without a "Hello" from the happy couple...a quickie announcement on a mic wouldn't count either.

  17. Eh, seen one firework display seen 'em all.  We have so many firework shows around here that honestly having them at a wedding wouldn't be a big attraction.

  18. Sounds fine to me. If that is what you want to offer your guests, then go for it. I've been to a ton of weddings but only a couple of them have had dances and the guests in attendance were not used to dances at weddings so they weren't missed at all. Every group is different and some will be receptive to something "new and unexpected" while others will shun anything that doesn't go by the book of how they think things must be done and talk behind your back for years to come.

  19. While it might be fine, we wanna DANCE!

  20. off the hook. can i come????

    lol

  21. Every wedding should have a WOW factor . . and if it doesn't, it's just another wedding.

Hip Hip Hooray for wanting to do something different . . your guests will remember that!!!
