As a man, was Jesus omniscient and omnipotent?

In other words, after he became a man like us in all things but sin, did he know everything (e.g., know all the sins we will ever commit) and have complete power to do anything (e.g., create new species)?

  1. No, only G-d is. No human can be.

  2. Actually, yes, the gospels are filled with examples of that.for instance John 1:43-51,Jesus knew where Nathanael was and what he was doing long before Christ got there.in John 9,Jesus heal a blind man by actually creating brand new eyes, using His spit and some dirt.

  3. it's possible!

  4. Not Quite !

In order to relate to us, He had to be one of us.

He still Healed people and commanded authority over everything though.

    I do find that interesting..

He seemed to be super Human at times.

  5. Jesus was just a guy. Like you.

  6. That wouldn't make any sense at all, since omniscience and omnipotence are SUPERNATURAL traits. All humans, including the (fictional) Jesus character, were and still are physically puny and use no more than a small percentage of their brain power (monotheists even less than a small fraction, of course).

P.S. Good show, Q&A Queen. That should set the monotheists thinking (using the word very loosely, of course).

  7. John 1:11In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Since Jesus was the visible expression of an invisible God, he certainly had complete power. His power to know all is demonstrated in John 4, in his conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well.

  8. We have to remember that He "took the form of a servant"--see Philippians chapter 2 for a more detailed explanation--but never gave up being God. Yes, Jesus did and does know everything. Please don't bring up the "yeah but what about Matthew 24 where He said the Son doesn't know--yada yada". He knew and still knows but was putting a stop to idle conversation.

As for your last question, yes, He has complete power but remember, He didn't do anything without the Father's approval. He simply was giving a model of how we as sons (legal heirs, the Greek means) should act. So He didn't create new species because the Father didn't see the need for any new species. Besides all that, Jesus came to give His life as a ransom for many and bring salvation to the world. I hope you have experienced this wonderful gift, too!

  9. The Church has consistently taught He was both God and man at once with separate and distinct natures. That means He had a human intellect AND a divine intellect. So yes, because of His divine intellect He was omnicient at all times.

In the 3rd century Origen wrote "Although He was God, He took flesh; and having been made man, he remained what He was: God." (The Fundamental Doctrines 1:0:4)

That Jesus submitted to the Father's will is not an indication that He was not God or a "lesser" deity. He simply meant to give to us a model of obedience and perfect submission to the will of God.

At the Council of Chalcedon it was declared: "We confess that one and the same Christ, Lord, and only-begotten Son, is to be acknowledged in two natures without confusion, change, division, or separation. The distinction between the natures was never abolished by their union, but rather the character proper to each of the two natures was preserved as they came together in one person (prosopon) and one hypostasis."

    Peace be to you all+

  10. He was a God, so yes, He could have done anything; however, He did not understand all sin until He went to the Garden of Gesthemane, where He shed drops of blood from every pore of His body to suffer for every sin that could ever be committed by any man or woman.

  11. He was neither.

Omnipotent?  Read the gospels and look at the number of times he prayed for power or gave credit to his father Jehovah for the miracles he had performed.  He even said he did nothing of his own initiative, but did the will of him that "SENT me".  Doesn't sound ominipotent to me.

Omniscient?  When his disciples asked him when the last days would be he said "no one knows the day or the hour, only the Father in heaven.  Nope, not omniscient either.

  12. Fully God and fully man.  It's a mystery, we will never fully comrehend.

  13. Nope. he had to die on the cross first. Before that he was just a man like us with the ear of God on his side.

  14. There are verses that allude to his lack of knowledge.  As a Child he both asked and listened to the Priests and grew in knowledge and understanding.  He also says that God has hidden the day of his return from him.  He could have called upon the power of God, but did not and thus died.  Bearing in mind the trinity he waited upon God to raise him from the grave.  When he did the Father's will there was nothing he could not do.

  15. No, but he did rise into the sky; he went up with just the clothes he was wearing, and maybe a lunch.  I heard somewhere that Milly packed  him a lunch.

  16. Once the dove brought down the message, yes.

Remember - it was only when jesus was baptised that he knew where his path in life would lead him.

Before that he was a simple carpenter.
