As a new NFL fan if I don't like my home team, is it acceptable to support another? Who should I support? :)?

I'm just getting into NFL football and am from Chicago, but I'm not a Bears fan. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on who to support for someone new to the game and enjoys football, but doesn't know a lot about it. Thank you so much!

  1. No matter where you live, you can always be a Chargers fan.

    Best running back: Ladanian Tomlinson

Up and coming QB: Philip Rivers

    Defense: Castillo, Merriman, Cromartie, Jammer

    Best special teams

    Best Tight End: Antonio Gates

Always exciting to watch; LT is going to the Hall of Fame some day.

  2. No!  you do not have to pull for the bears...there's no law saying that.  I'd personally watch all the teams, get to know the players and not make any decisions based entirely on one game...Nobody said you had to be loyal to one team anyway.  for instance, in pro...I'm a New Orleans Saints Fan of 30 years now...in college...although I Love my LSU Tigers, I like too many teams out there to have a true favorite.  just be selective in who you pick because you don't wanna pick for instance, Dallas because they're gonna own Cleveland this week and then give up on them in week two because Philly will own them...see what I mean?  People would then accuse you of being a band wagon jumper...no matter who you pick...stay loyal thru the good and the bad no matter how much they may suck...stick by 'em  that's what makes a true fan...Welcome to Football!  "Baseball might be America's Past-time, but Football is America's Passion." --Huey P. 3. Yeah you dont have to support your home team, i live in vermont, and we only have the patriots, but im a jacksonville fan. so like who ever you want.

  4. im in the same boat as La Di (heart) Big Ben

as for who you should support, go with anyone, just make sure you stick to them.

  5. its ok, my team is cowboys, lam from L.A.

  6. Well see I can't sell my team to you lol but I can tell you that you should watch some of these week one football games.  These games help you find out who you like because as you watch you tend to sort of drift towards a team and eventually you fall in love with them...that is how I found my team (Go Jaguars lol!) I watched their season opener against the Oilers in their first season and thats how I fell in love with them...but if you always wanna see your team win go Navy Blue lol the Patriots win all the time so watch some of their games.

TUNE INTO the New York Giants vs. the Washington Redskins and begin your new fanhood

  7. Yeah, it's acceptable.  I've seen tons of people do it.  Around Indiana I've seen Steelers, Packers, Cowboys, and Dolphins fans.

I'm personally a Colts fan.  I think they are a good team to support for a number of reasons.

1.) You will hardly ever see a Colts player get arrested, unlike most other NFL teams.

2.) They play together as a team.  You don't see guys missing training camp.

3.) When the first string guys are injured, the back-ups actually step up and play well.

4.) Coach Dungy is a great role model.  He's a very humble guy and a great sportsman.  He's not the kind of coach you'll see yelling at the players.

5.) The Colts average more wins season after season than any other NFL team has over the past 5-6 years, normally winning at least 12 games per year or at least 75% of their games.

6.) The Colts have one of the best offenses in the NFL so at least you get to watch your team score a good bit.

7.) The Colts have a small fast defense.  So many of the hits you will see by the defense will be hard fast hits by small guys that make you go WOW!

8.) There's not hardly been a better rivalry over the last couple of years than New England vs. the Colts.  Last year, they were the final two unbeaten teams.  And the last 3-4 years Indy has always been one of the last 2 unbeaten teams.

9.) They have a brand new state of the art stadium with a retractable roof.

10.) It's only 3 hours from Chicago if you want to come see a game.

11.) They are hosting the Superbowl in 2012.

  8. Go for Oakland Silver and Black

  9. I am 31 years old and have been a Cowboys fan all my life. I have never lived in Dallas. Think it had something to do with the star on the helmet when I was like 5 or 6 years old. lol

I've lived in PA, FL, and VA. Never supported the home teams..unless it benefited the 'Boys. Find a team that sticks out to you and root for them. If you have a particular player that is your favorite, support that team. If I wasn't a Cowboys fan, I'd be a Colts fan. I love the way Manning runs an offense.

  10. it is ok not to go for your home team!! just watch the teams this year and go for whoever you feel the most drawn to!

  11. It's fine to not support the home team. I was born and raised around the Washington D.C. area and I'm a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

The only thing is, once you've found your team, you must stay true. Don't jump ship if they have a down period. Another tip is to learn your team's history, so you don't sound like the uneducated "die-hard" fans of a certain team who shall remain nameless. Mostly have fun with it, understand that the fans of your division's rivals will give you hard time, but most of the time it's in good nature.

    Welcome to the NFL, Rookie!

    Cheers!
