  1. As far as safety is concerned absolutely. These SMART Cars have received very high crash ratings. Plus, they are designed with safety in mind as, well, they have to be. They are so small that feeling and being safe in them is key if they are going to sell. Oh, and since they only have two seats, your kid won't be hauling around multiple friends in it and therefore won't have as much of an opportunity to get distracted while driving

As far as buying your kid his/her first car goes, contrary to popular belief, the newer the car is ALWAYS better. I used to sell new cars and I used this argument all the time when it came to selling a car to people who came into the dealership to buy their kid his/her first vehicle. New cars have far more safety features than older ones. They are designed to protect the occupants. Statically speaking, new drivers are much more likely to get into a crash than a more experienced driver. So, wouldn't you want to put your new driver into the safest vehicle you can afford?

  2. Are you talking about those little tiny cars?

I would not consider those safe for anyone. Get hit by some idiot and there is nothing around you. You couldn't pay me to ride in one....I wouldn't put an experienced driver on the road in one, much less a teen.

  3. YES

    my brother owns one..

one thing that is important is you cannot fit a lot of noisey distracting kids into a smart car.. this is good..

the cars are made by Mercedes.. they are excellent...

BUT really I think a teens first car should be a $300 cheapo

  4. i would make my kids drive a old car thats about to break down but has some juice in it to drive it. a new car for a first time driver is not good because its very tough when hes in school or first time driver. because they might do something dumb and the insurance will be sky rocket high. a old car the insurance will be cheap and no worries about distroying a brand new car. its better to always go from the down to top with cars. like have a c**p car then a better car and after when they are good to get a brand new car.

  5. To make is short and simple .......................NO not at all.

I have driven them and they are somewhat scary to both drive and handle.............

    Your teenager is more important..........

  6. Like the answer above me, they have a special safety cell thing which protects you. New cars are definately better for young drivers if you can afford the insurance, me personally and a few people I know have been in accident we probably wouldn't have survived in older cars.

  7. Don't listen to the_emer or wut ever her name is the smart car is actually th 3rd safest car ever built.  It is set up that the car has a reinforced roll cage to with stand any head on accident taking in the consideration of that the car will be totaled but the person will be alive!!
