Where can we go? We are financially well off, but not rich and most everything is tied up in our property. I would love to be somewhere we feel safe, with good schools and hospitals. UK, USA etc are out, first of all they would not let us in and our money would be worth nothing. I feel so trapped. Looking on the internet some suggest Zanzibar. Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome.

  1. Now Sri Lanka sounds like a nice place.  The people speak English there too.

  3. So do a lot of us.  And we also have a government that is corrupt to the core.  We have also looked at immigration, but we are too old and we have a lot of elderly and sickly family members.  My advice to you is to go now while you are still young.  Think of your child.  Let those who proclaim this country to be so great stay and go down with it, because after all, this is what they created and what they wanted.

  4. Come to Canada........... we let everyone in!

  5. Go to Namibia it is very close and experience 90% less crime with the same exchange rate and standard of living as South Africa.

It is so sad to see what happened to SA and there is no change in sight.  You all blame yourselves, idealistic as you were to think that this is going to be better than 'Seperate Development'.

To the rest of you. . .You made your bed, now sleep in it!

  6. canada!!!!!!!!! my parents were poor when they were first here wouldnt even buy an apple for us cause was "2 expensive"and lived in crappy apartment and no car.

Now we have 3 houses that we own 2new cars going to good schools and are doing great.

  7. I am English and live here in Sri lanka with my wife and family. The people are nice, the weather is great and the cost of living a small fraction of the UK USA. You ca mail me ukslbureau@yahoo.com for more info is you wish. Good luck.

  8. Try Canada or even Asia. You will be surprised at the jobs there are out there and you don't need millions. Find out if you can travel on a tourist visa and then secure a job and change your visa. I know Australia doesn't allow it but New Zealand does.  Try this website. It is a group of expats and they tell you about the costs etc. Brazil is also good with many jobs going.

    Good luck

  9. I moved to Australia a couple of months back and loving every minute of it. I am a Nurse and moved out there with nothing, thankfully the hospital provided me with a place to stay and a good pay package. So it worked out well.

I know that Australia is after all kinds of skilled people, so if you're in one of those occupations, try and draw up a contract with a company first.

    All the best!

  10. What about Benin?  Very peaceful from what I hear.

  11. Come to turkey. You'll live in security and peace. Forget all stereotypes, at least pay a visit.

  12. What do you have to offer the country you want to move to?  That is what immigration officials assess.  Good luck.

  13. There are many possibilities like the UAE, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

We recently moved from the Western Cape in South Africa to Dubai in the UAE. The crime rate here is extremely low and we always feel save. Yet I must admit: I will always miss South Africa - it is a wonderful country and will always be our real home.

About the currency: 1.00 AED = 2.10039 ZAR  which makes it a lot easier to move from the RSA to the UAE than to the UK or the USA.

Just remember, wherever you go: the adaptation will be huge. It is not always easy and the decisions can be stressful but once you start your new life and start to settle it gets better. I also truly believe that your happiness in a new country will depend on your attitude. By just respecting the country's and its people's values and laws you gain so much more yourself.

  14. You do not need go very far.

Why not relocate to the Free State Province where your child can get the best schooling and where there is the minimal crime.

Places like Harrismith or Bethlehem in the Eastern Free State is still quite comfortable and an excellent place to rear your child and really very safe to live in.

If you do not have to work to earn a living, the Seychelles offer a really good option for single parents.

But really, you need go only as far as the Eastern Free State to get peace of mind.

  15. I think you'd be comfortable and happy in Canada.

  16. Why do you live in fear. Metaphysics states that you attract what you belive, if you spend your days living in fear you will bring crime and danger upon yourself.

New Zealand lets every Tom d**k and Harry in but it has to be the most boring place in the world.

Brazil will give you a permanent residence as long as you invest 50000 US$ in their country which is not much. Brazil is however not all that much safer that SA as things go.

Mauritius will give permanent residence for an investment of 500000US$ which is rather more.
