As a teacher assistant in a preschool would you feel comfortable to change diapers?

Is this teacher's duty?

Could you please share your experience? How it was?

Thanks.

  1. Well either way it is definitely part of your job.  Now depending on what kind of center you work in, sometimes it is a responsibility that is actually shared between the teacher and the assistant, other centers say that the assistant should change all the diapers

  2. I would say this is part of your job. However, most children are potty-trained by three years of age. How old are these children? I worked at at daycare center and we didnt have any children over the age of 2 that were in diapers.

  3. I think that in most schools, part of the the teacher's assistant's duties are to change diapers, keep the room clean and do other things that the lead teacher assigns.

However,  I am the assistant director at a Montessori school and if the teacher's assistant or the teacher is busy, or if we are short staffed, I often change diapers.  It is called TEAM WORK.

  4. i dont work at a center yet but I am geting my degree in ec and if i was working at a center i would feel comforable cahnging diapers.  As long as you follow the dipering rule you should be fine.  What is your lead teacher was out and you had a sub.  you have to get use to changing them.

  5. It would be the job of the teacher or teacher assistant, depending on the program and expectation of the school district.

The fact is that if you have disabled children in the classroom (very common in this day and age), someone will have to change a diaper. It is federal law that schools educate and provide the necessities for this. Sometimes it's the TA, sometimes the teacher, and sometimes the nurse. The schools I've known have been pretty understanding about it.

  6. My bet is... as a teacher assistant in a preschool it is most definately part of your job - if they have kiddos who wear diapers. If you don't like it... I encourage you to further your education so you can be the teacher and someone else will be your assistant. Never settle... always strive for more!

  7. Depends on the age you work with. 2 yr. old room - yes. 3 yr. old room-no

  8. Hi,

If you are working with this child at the school, it is your responsibility to change his diaper.  Not the teacher's job.  You are there to help the child and meet all the child's needs during the day.   When I went for my interview for my teacher assistant job, they asked me what I thought of if I had to change any children's diapers and/or potty them.  That was one of the interview questions.

  9. That is definitely part of the job.  I worked as a teacher's assistant through high school and it was part of my job.

I was freaked at first... but it was fine.

  10. it depends on the center, but pretty much you have to assist in whatever you can, or whatever the teacher needs assistnace with including changing diapers.

  11. ...It is part of your job .

  12. if i was a teacher i wont change their dipers coze its not the job of the teacher

  13. I think a way to protect yourself is to make sure the changing table is in a place where someone could easily walk by and see what is going on.  If the school does not have that, suggest it or find another school.

    Matt

  14. Yes this is typically the job of the assistant, not the teacher. At least in some school districts teacher contracts specify that teachers do not have to change diapers. If I was male I would not want to change diapers of young children, but would not choose to work with young children given our society. Otherwise this is a routine job duty and should of been disclosed during the hiring process via a job description so if you are not comfortable with it you can choose another job or different age group etc.
