Question:

As a teen volunteering in a hospital...?

I would like to volunteer at a Children's Hospital near where I live and I looked up volunteer information on their website and I found that with my age I could play games and talk to kids and some other things as well. I am interested in doing it but I was wondering if anyone out there actually has done this and what they though of it. I'm afraid I will volunteer there and make a mistake and ruin someone's life, I know that's silly because the doctors wouldn't let me do anything but still... Thanks!!!

  1. I volunteer at a hospital near my house, and I really like it. It gives me time to just get away from my problems and help other people who really need it. I know you may be stressing about impacting someone in the wrong way, but don't. Just keep a positive outlook and everything will be fine! I'm only 15 and I am pretty quiet, and when I first applied I thought that I would be a horrible volunteer. But you get the hang of it, learn new things, and meet some amazing people along the way!

  2. I am a nurse, and I can tell you that we love volunteers!  Sometimes, patients really need that distraction from their illness. I think that you playing games and talking with ill children would be wonderful!  What a great thing you would be doing for someone else. More people like you are desperately needed.

  3. actually I volunteer at a hospital in the summer, organizing files and helping people out (I'm 15). it's a great thing and you don't really have to worry about anything if you're just gonna play with the kids. trust me, you'll feel so good after knowing you made someone smile when they needed it.

  4. My daughter (age 16) volunteers and she is a very quiet person.
