if she hadn't intended to have an abortion, why did she check up if her baby had Down syndrome?

I know if you are over 35, doctors recommend you to check up, but still it is your choice.

  1. to prepare herself for something being wrong. i was 22 when i was pregnant. i had the CUB scan to determine the likliehood of downs. they asked if i wanted amniocentesis depending on what the results came back as, i said no as it carried a 1% miscarriage rate. they asked why id have one and not the other. i said if the chances came back high, i could mentally prepare myself that something may be wrong instead of believing everything was perfect and being  told after the birth that she had downs. abortion was never an option for me, i just wanted to be prepared.

    Nichola x*x

  2. Personally I would prefer to have advanced warning about potential issues so that I could be prepared for them.

And, as a woman, I DO NOT think Palin is wonderful.

  3. Perhaps she had a "feeling" that something wasn't quite right. Also if there is something wrong with a child then the parents want to be prepared for what they might have to face. Getting an abortion is not the only reason for testing.

  4. As a woman and a mother of a 5 month old I cannot understand why she would feel the need to parade her child on stage and use his affliction as a platform for her political stance.

    She's disgraceful.

And she's using his affliction to her advantage to appeal "compassionate" for choosing to have his "despite" his having down syndrome.

  5. Who cares! Lets all just get on our hands and knees and pray pray pray that by some small chance McCain & Palin don't win!

I would hope that the American population would riot in the streets and cause havoc and destruction if they did.

Just thinking about those two idiots make me sick to my stomach.

  6. We don't know what she was thinking now do we?

I had a genetics test done as well even though I knew I wasn't going to have to abortion because my husband and I wanted to be prepared.  If the doctors found something we wanted to be able to have some knowledge of it beforehand so we could cope when our child finally entered the world.

  7. I would assume that as a 44 year old she probably had some concern over her baby's health.  There are a lot of things at that age that can be wrong.  Or...maybe, she had an ultrasound and it showed some signs of something, therefore she did the  testing.

I know that at age 40 I CHOSE not to do any testing, the choice was given to me to have the testing, but I CHOSE not to.  It's a woman's choice to do the testing or not regardless of her future plans.

If my husband and I choose to have another child, I will probably make the choice to have the genetic testing done.

  8. just because you check if your baby is going to have something wrong, doesn't mean you are considering abortion. you need to prepare both mentally and physically for a special needs child

  9. she just wanted 2 know so she could be prepared like read books on special needs, how to care for children/infants with downs etc nothing wrong with that

and like another answer said, checking doesnt = abortion consideration, don't assume just bc some1 checks to see means they are thinking of abortion, that is very ignorant. some women want 2 know ahead of time and some would rather not know until the child is born, but it doesnt mean they are thinking of abortion!

  10. Probably to be prepared.
