Thank goodness for the Williams Sisters. Otherwise, we'd be as relevant in the sport of tennis as England.

  1. Yes I agree, to be as bad as England is like being as bad as an asian in a black club..at least we have something, those guys are really lucky if they got one player in the quarter finals..

  2. tennis just isn't popular over here anymore.

  3. Yes, I'm so glad we have some players remaining. I hope the sister's make it to the doule finals. I truly believe they need to play doubles more. Go Williams.

  4. I think that the Williams sisters are among the greatest female tennis players ever and are the only Americans making a real impact on the sport (even after all these years). Having said that, I find that most Americans (at least the ones on these boards) are so ignorant and racist that they resent the whole idea that these two black girls represent America. They so wish they had a player like Maria Sharapova or Ana Ivanovic representing them instead of the Williams sisters.

Venus and Serena are only praised and celebrated the day they win the tournament. A day later, they are hated on again and that has been a recurring theme ever since they both came out. They are never expected to win (despite their accomplishments) and when they do it's a slap in the face to all the people that hate them. Everything they (or their father) have ever done has been scrutinized so much by the press and by tennis "fans", that it's all they talk about. Venus always gets lumped into what Serena says in a press conference. Serena always gets lumped into what Richard says. They are all viewed as the same person which is ridiculous.

Venus is one of the most (if not the most) graceful and respectful players on the tour who is always respectul of her opponent, never challenges line calls and is always very diplomatic when challenged by reporters about her results.

Serena is a very competitive, in your face athlete that believes she is the best player in the world (and she is). She doesn't care what people think and always speaks her mind. People mistakenly take this for ungraceful when she is simply a cocky athlete (like 90% of NBA players). They choose to interview her 10 minutes after a match just to critisize anything she says. If she looses as a result of poor play (which is usually the case) don't dare let her say that because she is labled ungraceful. In fact the only competitive match that I recall her loosing where she played well was the 04 US Open Capriati match where she was jipped like 4 points. The only time Serena was ever actually "outplayed" by a superior performer was when she lost to Maria Sharapova at the 04 Wimbledon final (in which case she was very graceful in congratulating Maria). Any other time she looses, the anouncers themselves say that she made like a thousand unforced errors and are dumbfounded that she played so poorly. But when Serena says exactly the same thing, all of a sudden she is being ungrateful. The fact is, she along with Venus are among the most fair players on the tour. You've never seen either of them try to take a point they didn't earn, EVER!

Oh and don't let their dad ever say his opinion because whether it's right or wrong, it's spun so that it has basically come out of both Williams sisters mouth simultaneously.

The fact is, most American tennis fans don't like the Williams sisters. The majority of the people that actually respect them are international tennis fans because they are not blinded with racism and can actually recognize their accomplishments. They can go to Wimbledon or Australia where they are the talk of the field but the Williams sisters are among the only "American" players (or players of any nationality) that will get booed on their home soil. What do you call that?

"They are genetically altered", "They are apes", "They grunt too much", "They look like men", "They are ungrateful", "They are sore loosers", "They are this.....they are that...". Who else gets talked about that in womens tennis as much as they do? NOBODY!

So no, Americans in general are not relieved that they are represented by these two "black apes"! They are sore about it because there is no Chrissy Evert to be their great white hope.

  5. Not at all.  Sports are a waste of time and money.  The Williams sisters are a pair of genetically engineered beasts...not normal human beings, and I am ashamed if anyone thinks they represent normal Americans.

  6. I am relieved! The men aren't doing so hot though. ROddick and Blake has the worst preformances I've ever seen. I think Serena will meet Venus in the finals and Serena will win. Yes, I am very happy that some Americans are doing well in tennis.
