Question:

As an American does it scare you that four of the nine Supreme Court Justices wanted to take away your rights?

The decision, which declared the DC handgun ban unconstitutional, should have been unanimous. Instead, we have four judges that believe they have the right to legislate from the bench and rewrite the Constitution. Am I the only one who is worried by this? The RIGHT to bear arms is not a privilege. It should not be subject to restrictions, because rights apply to everyone. How would my fellow Americans react if they were required to obtain a license before they could speak on issues? How would you feel if you were not allowed to speak about certain things in certain areas of the country? I am guessing that people would be outraged. At the same time, words are very dangerous. Propaganda can be just as effective as guns, when it comes to the destruction of out nation. Didn’t someone once say that the pen is mightier than the sword? Well, the pen is also mightier than the gun.

  1. Except that NO ONE is trying to take away ANY of your rights, besides maybe the Bush Administration which suspended Habeas Corpus, the Fourth Amendment and Sixth Amendment.

  2. I agree...maybe if we can elect a conservative next time we can get that ratio moved to 6-3 or maybe even 7-2 if both Kennedy and Ginsberg do the right thing and drop dead

  3. I'm very disturbed by it.

Our founding fathers had incredible foresight. This was due to seeing how overbearing a large federal government was and established our government as a small federal government to settle disputes between states and deal with other nations.

They  knew what an important role firearms would play in this nation. True, the main thing they have been used for is defending against foreign enemies , but they are also for the average citizen's use to defend against domestic enemies.

    George Washington-

“The Constitution is the guide which I never will abandon”

“A government is like fire, a handy servant, but a dangerous master.”

“Firearms are second only to the Constitution in

importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth.”

“The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good.”

“If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.”

    James Madison-

“The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.”

“The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home.”

    Thomas Jefferson-

“If once the people become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, Judges and Governors, shall all become wolves. It seems to be the law of our general nature, in spite of individual exceptions.”

“Leave no authority existing not responsible to the people.”

    John Adams-

“The way to secure liberty is to place it in the people's hands, that is, to give them the power at all times to defend it in the legislature and in the courts of justice”

“Arms in the hands of citizens may be used at individual discretion... in private self-defense.”

    Patrick Henry-

“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.”

“The great object is that every man be armed.”

“Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense?”

    Abraham Lincoln-

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”

  4. YES!

Thank you for bringing that part up!

Does it bother anyone else here, that they're even ruling on one of our most basic rights..at all?  I know it's for DC, but still the smaller courts will follow suit with whatever the Supreme Court does.

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

    - Thomas Jefferson

  5. The 4 of the 9 supreme idiots are far more dangerous to individual rights than any terror surviellance program.  If they had one more vote, your right to bear arms could have been taken away.

In n**i Germany, if the Jews, Gypsy's, and others persecuted by Hitler had guns, they outcome may have been different and 6 million lives could have been saved.

Thomas Jefferson recognized that a disarmed people would not, in the long run, remain an independent, responsible, and free people. The price of trying to save fools from their folly would be the liberty of all.

Jefferson wrote: "Without arms, the weak were the prey to the strong, as in the feudal system of Europe, where the largest and the strongest made quasi-slaves of the rest of the society."

So 4 of the supreme idiots want to make us slaves to the government.

  6. Nothing bothers me anymore, I just roll with the punches.

  7. Everybody have the right to defend your/ there self acction is mightier than any of the above Don't blow it.

  8. you forget that those four are bush appointees, so it's obvious that they're going to p**s all over the constitution and on the morals and ideals of this country. isnt that what everyone related to bush is trying to do?

  9. We have strict gun laws here in Oz & frankly it doesn't affect everyday ppl much becasue lets face everyday ppl do not NEED firearms.

Then again we aren't a nation that is making enemies left ,right & centre either...

  10. It was predictable.

  11. Today's close decision, I believe, will take an issue that was essentially off the table and put it square in the middle of the table and drive Second Amendment voters to the polls.

That decision was far, far too close for any liberty loving American.

Why do I not trust Obama on the Second Amendment although today he says he supports it?

He is a Chicago politician. He has not stood up for the citizens of Chicago who want to exercise their constitutional right to self-defense.

Actions are always louder than words.

Less than a month ago he said he believed the "ban" on firearms in DC was constitutional, but today he agrees with the USC that it is unconstitutional.

He was for the ban before he was against it, apparently.

"It is often easier for our children to obtain a gun than it is to find a good school."

    Joycelyn Elders

"Maybe that's because guns are sold at a profit, while schools are provided by the government."

    David Boaz

  12. Yep.  It is scary.

  13. I spoke to a teacher tonight at dinner.  We discussed the Supreme Courts ruling.  Her (knowledge) of the days issue was limited to hearing about it on the radio (a few sound bites) in the car on the way home.

Her first observation was 'I am glad the supreme court ruled on 'assault' weapons and limiting them today.

I asked...  um, where did you hear such misguided information?

    She replied 'local' radio station.

After we ate we reviewed the transcripts of the Justices opnions on the issue.

She was stunned at 'the difference'  reading the courts decision and 'hearing' about it from the Media differed.

The media is as subversive as any foriegn power when utilized for 'dubious ends'

The Supreme court has it correct.  It does bother me that 4 of nine see it differently, however...  even some of the four have made comments that reflect thier agreement with parts and understanding of the 2nd Amendment that 'meets' the current ruling.

  14. It was a handgun decision, not a gun decision, you were still entitled to a rifle or shotgun.

I'm guessing by the way that you yourself would enjoy a life without pesky liberal talk.

The pen is mightier than the sword belongs to a time before automatic weapons.

For myself, DC is dangerous enough, I won't go back there.

At least a long rifle was difficult to hide, now its not even a fighting chance.
