I ship on Dec 22 to basic training and then job training as an AO. Just wanted to know if I'd ever do anything else besides load and inspect munition and small arms on aircraft.

  1. Congratulations, you got my job. I wanted that job but failed my depth perception test. I chose MA, but as an AO, no you'll be on the flight deck loading bombs, fusing bombs, under the deck building bombs. See you in the fleet.

  2. Navy? You'll be on a ship loading, unloading and maintaining aircraft weapons. No need for you to carry a sidearm.

  3. The primary job of AO is the maintenance of aircraft weapons.  You will assemble bombs, missiles, and load them on to aircraft, as well as the ammunition for the guns including the 25mm.  Sorry to say but little chance of you seeing front line combat. You'll be rear area airfield.

  4. You will get to carry one when you are on guard duty, and you will be trained in basic weapon skills like everyone else. However, with your job, if you get in a position where shooting is happening, things have gone terribly wrong!!
