As an anesthesiologist. do you get to travel ?

some doctor gets to go to different place to increase the advance knowledge of technology and medicine.

if i was an anesthesiologist ( thinking ahead of my time ) , will i get the chance to do it too.

  1. I think the chances would be pretty slim.  Going into medicine as a way to travel is not very realistic; the ones who travel are the ones who are really "top of their class".  I don't say that to mean that you won't be a great anesthesiologist, just pointing out the reality that you probably have to be in the top few percent in the nation to have lots of career travels.


  2. actually a friend of mine is an anesthesiologist and he is invited to conferences all over the world, all expenses-paid too. and if he doesnt go they just give him whatever the value of the trip was. though i do agree that you shouldnt go into medicine with travel in mind, unless you mean like missions and stuff.

  3. Yeah... I travel from the pre-op area, to the OR, to the recovery room, and then I get to do it all again.  Most days, I don't even get to see a window.

    There are conferences and educational opportunities available all over the place, and we can travel to those.  The ASA annual meeting moves around the country.  This year it's in Orlando, FL.

    Some anesthesiologists practice "locum tenens", meaning they fill in for other docs, and they can travel all over the place.
