Question:

As an artist/designer/animator, would I be able to find many job opportunities in the Virgin Islands?

I have a couple years left to finish my art degree in a suburb of Washington, DC. I hate living in the rat race here and I am considering possible places to relocate once I graduate. I am not from DC (rather, from a much more rural area), but I am afraid that I have grown used to certain aspects of the lifestyle here, like having lots of entertainment (restaurants, bars, clubs, shopping, etc.). Here are my main concerns about moving to VI:

1. Living in DC, I am used to high cost of living. However, salaries are higher here than in some areas and I am able to live somewhat comfortably making around $36k per year. Would I have a problem in V.I.?

2. What is the market for art and graphics (especially entry-level) in V.I.?

3. Are there safe and decently-affordable places to live around St. Thomas that are both city-accessable but a bit secluded?

Thanks a ton for your help. I am currently just doing research but any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

  1. I think that the website vinow.com has a section on employment in/moving to VI.

  2. check out the following link, I would think that you would be able to find something

The USVI are very different than the mainland. I think to live in paradise you will have a bit of culture shock.

The best way to get a real feel for the islands is to come for a visit and talk to the locals.

I do wish you good luck)
